Rheostat question

Hey all,

I am looking at getting a rheostat for my cages so I can adjust the UTH temps. I seen ZooMed has one but they can only hold up to two plugs. Anyone else have any ideas? Any with more than 2 plugs?

Thanks,

Howie

Personally, I prefer the slide rheostats (dimmer) over the rotary type if you are going that way.

But a nice thermostat is even better, in my opinion.

The bad thing about a rheostat is that you have to constantly monitor them and adjust accordingly. Such cases like drastic ambient temp changes like we have been having lately in the midwest here. Gotta keep an eye on your temps.

With a thermostat, you plug in the desired temp and it does all the work for ya!

Thanks for the replies...Do you know where I can get a good thermostat? My vivs are fine right now because of the very cold temps. But when spring and summer get here, I will need to do something.

Thanks!

You can probly purchace one at a close garden care store. But if that dosnt work im sure that most herpetology societies would have a few for sale, or do what i do and go on Ebay lol. Personaly i would check a plant store first.

Howie,

Home Depot or Lowe's has everything you need to build one.

1 extension cord
1 Dimmer switch
1 electrical wall box
a Screwdriver and a pair of wire cutters

That's it; 10 minutes and 10 dollars. ;)

hey CAV is that for a rheostat or thermostat? I assume its for a rheostat. If its for a thermostat could you send me the instructions or post them here or different thread

Howie, here is a pic of a doit-ur-self controller. The dimmer comes with directions.
