I've only had one Zilla thermostat, and it never failed on me. Good thermostat, was 2 years old when I got it and I had it for around a year or so after that. They're the same as the Alife thermostat (available from the Bean Farm).
A BAH thermostat would be from Big Apple Herp (
http://www.bigappleherp.com). Looks like their thermostat is a bit different than the Zilla/Alife, but same concept and overall look.
The one "cheap" thermostat I would genuinely avoid is the ZooMed. I have yet to hear about one of those lasting more than a year before failing. I had a few of them at one point, had them in use for around 6 months to a year each, and later gave them to a friend upon downsizing my snake collection. She later told me that one or two of the (can't remember for sure) 2 or 3 I gave her had failed. Don't know what happened with the last one.
I also can't help but mention that thermostats are one thing that you most definitely get what you pay for. The Alife/Zilla thermostat is a good one for the price, hardy and does the job, but the more money you're willing to spend the more precise control, reliability, and downright peace of mind you'll get. I LOVE my Herpstat, and have been trying to remind myself to save up to buy another because I'd much rather spend $200 on another Herpstat II than spend $60 on two cheaper thermostats. (Fortunately I haven't needed more than 3 thermostats--my Ranco and the Herpstat II, which is a 2-in-1 t-stat-- to control all my heat pads just yet!)
