Rheostat & UTH combo...

DdotSpot

The Snewbie
I didn't want to piggy-back on Trpnbil's thread, so I opened my own. I am currently using lights to warm my 10g tank. I would like to change over to a UTH setup. It just gets to be too much hassle to turn off the night heating light, and turn the day light on at the proper times.

My question is this:
If you 'more experienced' folk wouldn't mind posting maybe some links of some GOOD UTHs and Rheostats that would compliment those UTHs well. Also maybe a good thermometer that would measure the temp well. I'm sorry if this question has been brought up a million times...

Is this all I need to switch over, these 3 things?

Thanks all,

Daniel

You could always just pick up two timers and have one turn on the one light while the other one turns off the other.

I use Electronic BAH Series Thermostats with heat tape for my racks. You could see if the local hardware store has a digital thermometer. The digital ones seem to be the most accurate.

I thought about that...but then my heat gradient would be on the opposite side of the tank at night...

i use a rheostat (lamp dimmer) from lowes it was about $15. The heat pad i got off the petsmart website they had frree shipping on it

I use Flexwatt instead of a UTH and I make the dimmer switch rheostats myself. I buy all the parts at a home improvement center and can assemble it in about 15 minutes.

imo the heat gradient being at diffrent sides aint a problem.i use this set up and have done for years with no adverse results.your snake will find the proper temps to suit itself.in the wild not every spot will have the same temps so i wouldn't worry to much,as stated in the above thread use timmers.this will save you doing the job manualy.hope this puts your mind at ease. :wavey:

Hey CAV if you aren't busy, would you mind sending me the plans for those? The supplies etc? I'd feel much better about making it myself. I have quite a bit of electrical experience.

Thanks,

Daniel
