Rogue took a full size mouse

Glock23

SMR SG Corn Snake "Rogue"
It was so funny seeing him slug around the cage. poor guy.. The mouse was a pretty good sized one. I didn't see him eat it I left the room and turned out the light. When I came back I got scared because it looked like he still had the mouse in his cave with him. I took the cave out and saw the fatest corn i've ever seen HAHA . I haven't seen him since I put him back..

The bad about about the feeding is it was stressful on both of us I think..
He kept trying to get away and even with gloves on I was unsure how to get him picked up because I didn't want him to throw up the mouse. I tried putting the 20 gal cage into the 40 sideways to get him to crawl out and he just tried to go up the 20 gal's bottom. I then tried the container he came in but that failed so I just tailed him and hurryed him back into his cage so he didnt hang dangling in the air too long. I need to stop tailing him though because I doubt it's good for him and I look so stupid. I use two to 3 fingers and stretch my arm out away from me.. I feel so silly..

I did notice while in his feeding cage I could hear him breathing.. he was 3 feet off the ground and I'm 5'9". I don't know if thats normal to hear him breath with him below me ect..

anyways i'm really trying to learn here. I'm a little bumed about having to feed him every 6 days because then I gotta wait 48 hours to handle him... seems to me a hard way to get to know him and him me vise versa.. I've though hard about how I feel about him and I'm attached to him. I just gave up at first because of money issues that weren't related to the snake. My soon to be wife likes him now too hehe. She's checking on him a lot it's like he's our kid..

On an unrelated note I saw the funnest thing at work today. This lady brought her little tiny dog in with her and I (arg) had to tell her to leave. The funny part was when I went outside she had a dog stroller for the dog. I about died trying so hard NOT to laugh. She then called him her baby and tucked him in. As above with rogue I understand but a Dog stroller? Maybe I need a snake stroller :grin01: :shrugs:

have a good one everyone :)

Since he ate such a big meal, he is at risk of regurge for the next few days. The most likely time for a regurge is usually 24 - 48 hours after eating, but with a really big meal, it could come days later. Do not handle him for at least 3 days, and if you still see any lump, wait even longer.

If he does regurge, do the regurge protocol in the FAQ section. If he does not regurge, you still might want to use a smaller mouse next time as he might regurge the second time on a really big meal. If you continue to feed really big meals, at least be sure the mouse is prekilled so you can put some cuts into the skin, lessening the chances for regurge.

Hope it works out ok - good luck!

Hmm, a snake stroller...I think that my 2nd graders would be all over that one! I put a type of "swing" in my snakes' tanks -- I took a toilet paper tube & looped some string through it & taped the string to the outside of the tank & my snakes like to reach up & crawl/hang on it...:) (I actually got that idea from a 2nd grader, too...:) )

I'm glad that your fiancee is accepting of Rogue now...it took awhile for my boyfriend to be accepting, as well, and now he's helping me out at events involving reptiles. :) And, do give Rogue some time with digesting; one of my corns went through a stressful readjustment period and while he had an appropriately sized mouse on which to feed, he regurged not once, but twice, and I did follow the protocol in the FAQ. What I ended up doing is I kept him in solitary confinement for 10 days (meaning, no interference whatsoever, especially from me!) & injecting the feeder mouse with NutriBac, which I ordered from Kathy. He didn't regurge that time...and I really credit it all to good advice & patience & the NutriBac.

All of my snakes let me know when they're digested...they come out & begin to be active once again, and only then do I interact with them -- unless I still see the tell-tale midsection lump (by the way, have you seen the Munson Plan to estimate the right size feeder for Rogue?). In fact, my only interaction with the snake is removing it from its feeding container and returning it to its tank, until I see it 2-3 days later. I know that it's super-exciting right now with owning Rogue & finally feeling an iota of comfortability (is that a word?) with him, but give him all of the space he needs right now...and by ensuring a happy, well-adjusted snake, you'll also ensure being able to see him eat in the future. :)

(*phew!* Sorry so long...talking with 8 year olds all day can do that to you, when you can finally talk with other adults!)

so even though the "Munson Plan" stated Maize should still be on 2 pinkies...she ate a fuzzie and never regurged it..so if I keep buying her fuzzies and also cut a slit in them, would she be okay?? or should I stick to the Munson plan??? Like I said she never regurged the meal..it did take her time to eat it but that was all...what do you guys think??

Sorry for stealing this post...this was never meant to steal it but I think it just did...I'm sorry :0( :-offtopic :sidestep:

well, if mazie is long and skinny, two pinkies would be better, if she is shorter and bigger round a fuzzie should be no problem, just get a smaller fuzzie or what some call a peach fuzzie.

It's not harmful to pick up a snake with your hands after it's just ate if you are careful. It can be harmful to handle it and let is move around, climb explore and be moved all about. Don't be afraid to pick it up and move it back to it's cage, just be careful and keep the trip as short as possible. When snakes have a full belly is when they are most vulnerable to predators and not being able to hid when it's belly is full is no fun at all for a corn snake. It's also not good for a stretched belly to be moving all around. However a quick and careful up and down won't do it any harm.
