Hi everyone!

Im totally new at snakes but I've been wanting one for a while and I finally got myself one today. A 2 months old opal motley and I am really hoping to find tricks from you guys, seasoned owners and breeders, to help me to become a great snake owner. I've been looking up different sites and videos as a learning method but I find it more confusing then anything since there is a lot of contradiction from one site to the other. I am looking forward reading the "newbies" questions ..since I might not be the only one having "those" questions...and reading your various but lived answers!

Thanks in advance!
Mel

Welcome and congrats on your new baby. Im new to cornsnakes as well and this site has been really helpful. Just browse thru the different sections and any qustions you might have, have probably been answered here already.

So lets see some pics of your new addition ;)

Welcome!! You have come to a great place to learn. And yes we like seeing pictures of everyones babies.

Thanks guys for the welcome! :) and yes, many of my questions have been answered so far. Pictures are to come I promess but I'll give her some time off..she is about to shed and have been fed 2 days ago so she is at the "smell my fingers" part and try to calm her down to handle her.

Hello and Welcome!

Yep, you came to the right place. This forum has a TON of correct and very useful information. People are always willing to answer questions and give advice.

Can't wait to see pictures of you corn snake! Where you get it and what did you name it? Just being curious :) .

Look forward to seeing you post around the forum!

An opal motley is an impressive morph for your first cornsnake! How did you decide on that??? What did you name her?

I got her at the pet store I get my fish from. I was attracted to her so I had to take her! lol I called her Amethyst. I was looking for Gods and Godesses names but the thing is...you gotta remember the name! loll

I'll try to get a pic today but she is hidding and her eyes are still foggy and I have to tell my brain that a bite doesn't hurt lol

Welcome and it is definitely a great place to start absorbing information.

Best of luck and happy herping. :D

GranKin01, the picture you got there, the pink corn, is that a creamsicle? it is such a beautifull color and patter! I love it!

Thanks! Some of the members on here told me its an amel with a similar patter and color to a creamsicle. Some of the members in my local herp society said it was a creamsicle before I even asked. I got him from petsmart so I'll probably never know. :)

Strangely enough when I was looking for my first one I really wanted a Creamsicle so either way it worked out. :D

Amethyst is pretty! But she is not an opal. See how she has dark eyes? An opal would have pink eyes. But she's motley- you can see that from her side pattern. Did they maybe call her a "hypo" motley??

I don't know..I thought the dark eyes were because she was shedding...there were an hypo in the viv where I got here but the girl sold it to me as an opal. I don't know...you guys are the pro! I'll have to look that up too!

Well Nancy, I guess you are right. Even is she had pink eyes, they wouldn't turn black with the shedding...and from the pictures I've seen on the net, she looks a lot like other hypos. God I am learning so much with you guys! I am really glad to be on this forum!!

A baby opal looks like this. (Well, this one is striped, but the color is the same). It would be very unlikely to see an opal motley in a pet store, although a regular-patterned opal might be there. But a hypo motley would be something you'd find there. She is going to be a beautiful snake when she grows up- her colors will change a lot! There is a website called Ian's Vivarium. If you Google it, and go to the cornsnake morph section, you can see lots of pictures of all the different morphs, including hypo, and how it looks with a normal pattern, or motley or stripe.
