Uh, I went out to buy bedding for my snake because it is time to clean his cage now and I was in a hurry so I grabbed something that looked like what I had gotten before, and when I got home IU realized that I had gotten fir bark, is that OK or is totally :puke01:poisonous? :headbang::awcrap:

Hmmmmmmm... I've never heard of fir being toxic before, but rather than chance it, I'd bring it back and get new bedding.

As a general rule, bark should be avoided. If a tree has any toxins in the "wood," it will be concentrated in the bark to protect it from insects, etc. Since fir is in the pine family, I'd say it is likely not the most safe substance to use. Cedar is also in the pine family, but I doubt if fir is as dangerous as pine. In other words, it is likely bad for your snake even if it is NOT deadly. Avoid all bark at completely - and be careful with any parts from the pine family.

I would take it back. After reading what everyone else has said. Pine is bad and I know cedar is the worst. I use aspen. Will the petstore allow you to use it? Even if they don't, buy new stuff and maybe donate the other substrate to someone who can use it. Good luck!
