Would is be alright if I bought a big rubbermaid, about 40 gallons, and used that as a tank instead of buying a big expensive glass tank? I would have all the essentials, the only thing that would be different is the tank. Thanks.
I have a sub-adult Brazilian Rainbow Boa in a similar setup. I like the plastics because of the lighter weight, and the improved ventilation control and sanitation. The only "watch out" is with the heat source; one that gets very hot can warp the plastic if it isn't regulated.
I used to use a Rummermaid for my Snow Corn before I got glass. I don't think it made any difference to her weather she was in Glass or Plastic, just so long as she had all the essentials to keep her comfortable. But the one thing I would say is, make sure it is escape proof. I went as far as scewing the lid on, and cutting a hole in the middle of the lid, and placeing a small sheet of metal over the hole, I taped it down and put a heavy object on top as well. Even then I was still stessed I over looked something and she would escape. But she never did, even though she tried once, and got stuck in the tape on the lid. After that, I never seen her try that route again.
Using Rubbermaids or other plastic containers is a lot easier when you get to having as many snakes as I do. I make rack systems for all of mine. I am currently in the process of making a 4 foot high, 8 foot long, 16 inch deep 48 tub rack to house my 02's. If I had to use 48 ten gallon tanks I would have to buy a seperate house just for my snakes.
Would the undertank heater get hot enough to damage the Rubbermaid container? I need to upgrade for my little guy soon and I'm wondering if that might be a better option than spending a wad of cash for a new glass tank.
BTW, This is my first post but I've been lurking for a while. I can't tell you how much this board helped me out when I was getting set up. Thanks!!!!!

If you use a thermostat to control the heat there should not be a problem with warping of the plastic.
