Safe flea treatment to use in environment around snake closure

Ok so I'm currently living with my husbands grand parents & his nan has both a cat & a dog. Well the dog has gotten fleas & I need to treat my bedroom where my corn snake is kept. The dog has been treated with frontline flea treatment & my husbands nan has used flea spray downstairs, the cat is to be treated aswell but I obviously can't use chemical sprays etc in my room because of my baby. I have found something called diatomaceous earth which is a non chemical natural pesticide that works by dehydrating the flea but I'm not 100% if I can use it in the room where my snakey is. It's a food grade item which can be added to pet food to treat worms etc so I dont think it will hurt but I wanted to ask if anyone here who has cats & dogs has any experience with this item (diatomaceous earth)? And if so is it safe to use in the room with my snake? I want to dust my mattress & floor etc.

If you're worried, you can always move Popcorn's viv out of the room for the day, or cover his viv with a towel. We had an ant problem and the exterminator came the day before he was supposed to, and I had an exam in twenty minutes so I couldn't really do anything. I just put two towels over his viv and told the guy to kindly not spray near his tank.

Fleas are actually pretty easy to get rid of once you treat the animals. If they are getting advantix, it might take some time before they all die out. When we got our kitten she was covered in them and they soon took over our apartment. All I did was treat her and the dog, spray flea spray under the coffee tables and on the couches (for some reason they love being under coffee tables, or so says my vet) and vacuumed the hell out of my carpet. I didn't do anything really intensive and they died off pretty quickly as soon as they lost their hosts.

Febreeze justcame out with a furniture and carpet spray. Spray it on let it sit for half a hour and you vacuum it off.
Also if you have carpets salt works well. Let it sit for a few hours then again vacuum it up. Fleas need moisture and the salt dries them and their eggs out.

You can safely use diatomaceous earth around any animal. Just keep it out of the cage of the snake. You can also use Prevent-a-mite as it is safe for reptiles and will kill both mites and fleas. Just spray in the carpeting around the cage areas and you'll be fine.

I used DE in my snakes' tubs to kill mites. Worked great, no harm to the snakes. Took a week or so to completely kill the mites, so you may have to treat more than once. It will work.

I second the food grade diatomaceous earth! It will kill anything with an exoskeleton & it's safe to use around your pet (unless your pets include spiders & such).

Another vote for DE from me. I use it both in the snakes tubs and around the house. Last year I had eggs being attacked by fungus gnats while incubating, the DE I sprinkled in the egg tubs and actually on the eggs killed the insects and the eggs hatched out without any problems

This has been very helpful. I ordered sum DE yesterday & am now hoping it arrives quickly even tho I haven't seen any in my room where I keep my baby since we treated the dog & I hoovered my carpet & washed all the bedding. There are still a few fleas alive tho so I'll treat the dog & the house with the DE when it arrives.

Just make sure the DE you use is food grade. I believe there is a type used in pool filters which is not safe for use around animals.

I love DE. I used it on my floors in hard to vacuum areas when my cats had fleas.

I would probably treat a few times, to catch any eggs as well. Maybe once a week for a few weeks.
DE is great stuff. The pool grade DE is chemically altered, & is toxic to animals (probably people too, but don't quote me on that, I'm just guessing) ;)

The one I ordered is food grade. I bought from a supplier on eBay & messaged the seller to ask if it would be safe to use around popcorn just to be sure. Thankyou everyone.
