"Mr. icky" was born on 5/15/06 and I recived him from Kathy Love on 6/20/06. He was doing great and eating twice a week up until august 3rd when he regurged his pinky mouse about 24 hours after I feed him. There was no visable bump from the previous mouse. In his regurg there was what looked like a very very shrunken mouse corpse about twice as thick as a toothpick and 1/8th the size in length of a pinkiy.

I then feed him again on august 10th and he either regured today (12th) or yesterday (11th.) (I was out of town.) I thought the first regurg might of been because I handled him a little before I feed him. But I dont know why he did it again! Temps are 77-80 degrees on the warm side. I have 3 inches of substrate all around and plenty of hides and TP rolls everywhere. He is a in 40 gallon long Critter Cage.

I replace his water, and search for poop everyday.

I am at a loss at what to do! He was doing so great and now all of a sudden he is sick!

I placed him in a shoebox now with 3 inches of substrate, some TP rolls, and a small water disk. I put a weight ontop of the box and put the box in the viv half way over the heated part of the viv.

I dont think its a secruity issue because he was doing so great before this and roaming around his viv like he owned the place.

Wait another 7-10 days before trying again. Try feeding something smaller like just the head of a pinky. Also, you might try giving nutribac a try.

It might also be that he needs a bit warmer temps. Some snakes do better with temps closer to the mid 80's, but it's hard to say for sure if that would make a difference. Might be worth a shot though.


Also, personally, I would limit the handling for the next 7-10 days. The more you handle the more stress you are potentially putting on him. Again, there's no way to determine if it's stress related, but limiting the stress can never hurt.
 
You can get Nutribac from Kathy Love's website. Usually after the third regurge, the prognosis is grim. However, don't lose heart. My little bloodred has regurged 5 times and is still hanging in there. I had to switch to liquid feedings for a while, but she is doing much better now. Check out my thread titled Getting Discouraged and read some of the really good advice I got when mine was regurging.

Ill feed him in a week - just a head. Should I roll the head in the stuff like you did, or just do the water?
 
So sorry to hear you are having problems after doing so well for so long. Usually problems occur during the first month if they are going to occur at all.

Most people err after a regurge by either feeding too quickly or by feeding too large of an item. It is best to do as suggested - feed something MUCH smaller after a regurge, like a pinkie head. And if he holds that down, DO NOT go quickly back to the usual size food item. Take your time on recuperation - it takes a while. Moving ahead too soon will put you back to where you started.

During the next month, be sure to do anything possible to keep stress down. That means no handling (unless necessary), perfect temps (use a thermometer to be sure warm side is in the mid 80s on the shavings), and tiny meals. Only after a half dozen or more successful feedings should you begin to relax and start to move back (SLOWLY!) to more normal husbandry. And the Nutri Bac may help a lot - at least it certainly won't hurt.

I'm getting one of Kathy's from that batch next week m'self. I sure hope your snake pulls through...it's frustrating that it takes so long to see if there's progress. Please keep us updated; I'm rooting for the little fella.

I plan to feed him a head on the 20th.

Could anyone give me any more ideas on what I can do??

Im thinking of running to petco or something an buying a pinky incase its a defective batch of pinkies. Does petco carry good feeders?

Have you received the Nutribac? I would hope it would give quantity information on there somewhere... Anyway, it sounded like Becky used far more than she intended with her regurging snake and it has been fine, so at least don't worry about using too much.

It's unfortunate that most of the folks with experience at this sort of thing are selling snakes at Daytona Beach right now, but from what I've seen, you've got plenty of suggestions for the next try. You may want to wait for the Nutribac if it hasn't arrived, since it should help his digestive system digest the pinky. As for Petco, their mice are probably fine as long as they aren't discolored or smell bad after thawing. The likelihood that it was the mouse is pretty small in the first place - the odds of getting two bad batches from two sources in a row is miniscule.

And don't worry. He may just keep that next head down fine. Hang in there, Mr. Icky!

There is no directions on the bottle. Anyone know how much I should use in his water?

Ill try picking up a pinky from petco.
 
I just put a good sized pinch in the water, and completely coated the mouse when I fed my snake. I don't think you can overdose on this stuff.

I'm pulling for you. And Mr. Icky.
