Setting up thermometers?

Hi! I just got a snake and my viv is all set up. :) I was just wondering, how to I get the thermometer/thermostat probe INSIDE while keeping the reader/controller OUTSIDE like the directions say? With the wire coming out the cage closes and latches but there's a little gap and I'm worried my hatchling Lorenzo can get out through it. It doesn't seem big enough but he seems really tiny too. :/ I'll get pictures up soon so you can see the gap.

Here's a picture of the viv:

And here's a bad picture of the space I'm worried about.

How do you do it? I can't figure it out! >_<

I'm taping the corner as a temporary solution, but it'll be a pain to have to re tape every time I need to open the lid. :/

Well, if you have a dremel, I'd just cut a notch into the edge of the lid.

Just be sure to sand it smooth, or even get some rubber edging (basically small tube with a slice down it to slip over the edges of the cut).

Or, if it's wide enough (it kind of looks it from the picture), you could drill a hole in frame and run the wire through that.

You could also just drill through the lid itself, but then you're constantly moving the probe wire around every time you open the lid, not a perfect solution but it should work.

Oh, I didn't even think about that! I'll tell my mom, she has a drill I think. I'll see what she can do. :) Can I do that with the snake in there? I'm trying to let him settle in but I keep having cage issues. :(

I put weather stripping along the lid rim. It is double sided, but I just left the paper on the one side. It makes for a nice tight seal.
