I guess this is the board to put this on if not, sorry.

I have a question about shedding. What is the best way to make sure my corn snake sheds its full shed? I heard a moss hide is good but I think my Kingsley is going to enter blue soon and I don't have the funds to buy any moss. Are there any house hold items or any other methods to help him shed his complete shed?
 
If you really want to make a humid hide, I think slightly moist paper towel would work just as well as moss.

But, you don't necessarily need a humid hide. Occasional light misting or laying a moist hand towel over the top of your tank is an easy way to increase humidity.
 
Okay thanks! I would of never thought of a moist hand towel. Do I just lay it on the screen and use a heat lamp or just lay it on the screen and let the UTH heat make it humid in the cage?
 
You can just lay it on the screen, no need for a lamp. Do you have a hygrometer in your tank? Around 60% humidity is sufficient. Corns generally do fine with the humidity in the average house, even for shedding, so you should only have to bump up humidity a tad if anything

In winter, though (looks like you're a northerner too :) ), it can be harder to get enough humidity. I run a humidifier during the winter sometimes- it's probably benefiting us humans, too!
 
I get paid on Friday and I will have all the things he needs. I was kind of in a battle for him with another lady at the pet store. She was looking at him first and was unsure if she wanted him or not. I fell in love once I saw him and didn't want her to decide so I bought him and got as much as I could with what money I had left. Didn't do too bad. Just forgot a thermostat and Temp/Humidity gauges. Could have gotten a thermostat that night but the pet store was either out of stock or didn't sell them. Dumb, if you sell reptiles why wouldn't you have everything they needed lol.
 
I wonder if the reason why pet stores recommend lamps over UTHs/thermostats is because although the UTH/stat combination is initially more expensive, with a bulb, they are guaranteed a repeat visit ever couple months (as my uro's light has burned out for the millionth time this morning). I hate lamps.

He may shed just fine. If I'm worried about a shed, I'll either make a moist hide with sphagnum moss (you can buy it in the garden/orchid section at Lowes or Home Depot), or I'll mist the viv and place a piece of plastic wrap loosely over the top. Moss is better than paper towels for the hide, because moss has a natural anti-mold characteristic, which is whyit is also so good for lay boxes.

I made a little steam room for mine out of a Tupperware container. Cut a hole on the side, then I put some wet moss in there, and closed up, and set it over the heat source. She LOVED IT! She stayed in there for 3-4 days and she had a perfect shed! I had to re-wet the moss once.
 
Here is a pic. she is still tiny, so this small container worked. you can see her tail :)
