hello we have only had our corn snake a couple of weeks and she is preparing to shed can i handle her at this stage or should i leaver her until she has finished shedding

You _can_ handle her but it's her instinct to hide away. If it was my snake, I would respect her need for concealment.

thanks guys i will leave her till tomorrow thats if she comes out of her den. I bought her a coconut and she loves it but it does split into 2 parts so i can check on her if she chooses to stay inside x

My snakes love the little coconut hidess if it's like yours. Mine doesn't split apart though, it's just the top of a coconut, they are perfect for little ones.

she has the little half one in the warm side of her viv and the whole one in the cooler side as thats where she spends most of her time it is cosy and dark inside for her x

where did you find a whole one?

Also, they told me here that a little moisture helps the snake shed so I folded up a paper towel really small and wetted it with warm water and put it in the warm side of the cage under a hide. It actually stays moist quite a while! I mist a little too mostly on the plant but I'm sure it adds a little humidity in the tank.

an added thought... by handling they mean leave it alone once it goes to hide. don't feel like can't pick it up after it eats to put it back in it's enclosure.

I don't even handle them to put them back. I just bring the tupperware to their tank and let them crawl out on their own. But then again, I'm wary. I've already had one regurge. :(

Nah, you don't need to go to all that trouble if they are healthy snakes, especially if they are used to being handled. Even my hatchlings are handled after they eat and they've always eaten and digested just fine. I worry about the little girl I have to force feed sometimes but so far even after the stress of that ordeal she's done fine. They are much tougher than you think. Just be gentle when you do it and wait until their feeding mode has passed so you don't get bit.

Wow. Maybe I need to forget about selling snakes and just sell the sheds. Mine almost always have completely intact sheds. Hmmmmm.....

lol theo i know what you mean, my little guy shed a few weeks ago and it was perfect, head and everything it even had his pattern on it :). About the coconut thing i just made one from scratch cost me about 99p, just buy a coconut and cut it in half with a hacksaw, scoop out all the innards bake on low heat for an hour or so and you have two good hides for less than £1.
