Shipping Devaluations

It's a hard situation these days with high shipping rates/costs.

I'm charging a flat-rate $50 FedEx Priority overnight (next day by 10:30am) and I still loose sales because of shipping costs.

By charging a flat $50 I'm actually LOOSING money. Shipping is costing me $50-$65 depending on box size PLUS I'm $5/per order in the hole for the styro lined box ...maybe another $.75-$1.00 for heating/cold pack. Not even to mention the gas for a round trip to the FedEx office (20 minutes away from the house).

I'll continue to keep my shipping costs at $50 for as long as possible and just eat the extra $5-$20 extra costs per order....heck, even I have decided aginst purchasing a few snakes offline because of the shipping costs (great animals from wonderful breeders but it's hard with money being tight to drop $50 for shipping).

Just my $.02

Well what you are really talking about is you didn’t like the guy trying to talk you down. It doesn’t matter if you drop the price of the snake or the shipping costs, the end result is that you get less than you feel you deserve and that is what make you mad. It’s all about bottom line.

Mad

I'm not at all "mad". A bit disgusted that people can be that way with their peers, trying to benefit at another's expense, but that's a principle thing. Since I already said twice that I don't mind someone making a reasonable counter-offer, I don't know where you're coming from telling me what I'm really talking about.

Did that stomping feet thing work at all for you? :p

I wanted a snake once (well, more than once, but this one I _really_ wanted!) and felt I knew the breeder well enough to just _ask_ if I could make payments on him. Luckily, that person said yes!!! (Thank you!!!) I would never ask someone to drop the price. I can't even do that to a guy selling hammocks in Mexico! Another time, I asked someone I did not know if he would hold a group of pretty expensive snakes until I got my tax return- a matter of a week or so, and he agreed. You know what, if you're dying for the latest morph, all you, unfortunately, have to do is wait. The price comes down after the first year of production. And if you can't wait- then I've found selling my soul to get it is always worth the fun!
