I have an amel and a snow corn, both female, both about 2 foot long. I was just about to buy a huge 4 foot long viv to keep them in, at present they are in a 2 foot viv.

just noticed a thread about cannibalism! oh my ! i don't want to lose my snakeys, no one mentioned in the pet store that they might eat each other !
what should i do. ? get separate vivs for them ?

I would suggest that you do seperate them. I think you find that most people do, although some do not.

Do a search on this forum about it, there are countless threads pertaining to this matter. After that, it is entirely up to you!

i don't think they will eat eachother, especially if they are about the same size. a snake isn't capable of downing a meal that is of equal or greater size and it's not like one will bite off the others head, they don't chew or chomp, BUT i wouldn't recommend keeping them together unless you have had them together for a long time. if they are used to eachothers presence then i don't think you have to worry. if you are putting them in the same enclosure for the first time DON'T DO IT!!! also, if you keep your snakes together and one gets an infection or disease the other will probably catch it. if one sees the other slithering by he may mistake it for a meal and snap at it. i'm not totally against it and it would certainly be easier to house more than one in the same viv, cheaper too, but i haven't done it and when i get a second snake i will probably put him alone in my ten gallon tank that norbert used to be in and upgrade when necessary.

If they're both females, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. They might get a little antsy around breeding season, but females seem to get along pretty good, especially if you keep them in a 4 ft long viv. They'll have enough room to move around in, and they won't get cramped together. Just make sure that you do all feeding seperately. I kept females together in times of limited space and I've never had any problems. Its the males you have to worry about. I had one male mistaken for a female take a chunk out another males neck once in a territorial dispute. Normally males don't do THAT much major damage, and my male turned out to be fine after he healed, but its best to avoid it before it happens. If the females are not familiar with each other, a good way to introduce them to each other is to put them in the same viv with the same substrate with a screen or a piece of plexiglass with holes drilled in it as a divider. That way the snakes can still see and smell each other. Once they adapt and have become familiar with each other, they should be fine. This will help you out with saving space and utilizing what space you have.

I have just done a search on cannibalism, i am now terrified. i will go and buy a new viv for lila tomorrow. we will cancel the 4 ft big viv and keep the girls separately from tomorrow on. Thanks. and some of those scary corn eating corn pics are amazing.......
ewwwww.

cannibalism is more rare in adults than in hatchling. Of course it is always possible.

you know more than me, man. sometimes i try to sound like i know what i'm talking about lol when really it's all just coming out of my a**. i'm an actor, i can be convincing, but perhaps not on a message board. hahah...jk. i really did believe what i was saying was true, however, i don't have any factual information to back it up. please enlighten me?

i seriously recommend separating them. i used to have 2 females together, same size whom had lived together for 3 years, however a little while ago fed them both, one made a little mess and had a bit of blood on her face the other immediately struck clearly at the others face, luckily me and my dad was watching and also she had missed the other completely, but i seperated them asap and i highly recommend the same for your little ones. you just never know. it doesnt matter how long they had lived together or how old they are. my 2 other females had lived together for 6 years and not once did anything go wrong, but i now dont risk it whatsoever.
good luck
