Should number of posts kinda correlate to rep..

Well Eric I see a flaw in your formula.....not all of us have formal Education in biology, animal sciences, and/or animal husbandry and yet are still very good at keeping our animals happy and healthy, in fact healthier than we are!!

I think that's why it's only part of his formula. Even if that portion of the formula is close to nil, the other parts are more than capable of making up for it.

That said, I 'd when I saw the formula, are you going to patent that formula Eric? I tried to figure mine out, but I didn't keep track of my hours of research. I suppose I could figure out a standard deviation.

I specifically pointed that out because I tried to get some formal education in biology and even wanted to be a vet BUT I SUCK at MATH and SCIENCE, esp. BIOLOGY. LOL. Hence my nit picking at Eric. giggle giggle

DYK, Heather you know me so well. See, Tisha, she can even answer questions about my equation.
Of course, it's not perfect. But the βR would be a giant component for many. Almost unmeasurable.
And none of the mathematical phrases are necessarily near or even proportional to each other.
That is why it is x, µ, z, and β.........instead of x(H + Y + E + R)

And you can (nit)pick on me any time you like. :D ;)
Wade does all the time.
And I still love him like a mentor/father/Zeus/Solomon type figure.

Ahhh what do I get to rate as Eric???? LOL
Hmmm...Tisha,...most specialest, kindest, sweetest, wisest, coolest friend I have in Saskatchewan. But seriously, forum friends that PM you "just because", or to check on you 'beneath the surface'...they rank pretty doggone high.

But, you know, back to the OP,...the only real thing I dislike about the amended (albeit months ago) system is the limits in giving rep. Giving rep means much more to me than getting it. I may have a way with words at times, but giving rep is much more satisfying than having it or getting it. I know, I am so corny and pollyanna, but that is how I feel about it.

Kloe, like I tell my clients/residents, it is not always the ones who talk the most or the loudest or even the best who have 'things' figured out. It is often the ones who go quietly about their business (whatever that may be) and are never noticed or celebrated who really have the answers and hope and optimism in life.

Cumulative Individual CS.com Forum Status = x(number of years keeping corns + number of years in total animal Husbandry) + µ(chronological Years of age) + z(formal Education in biology, animal sciences, and/or animal husbandry) + ß(total clock hours Reading and Researching reptiles).

I was gone only gone a day! so many replies!!
I dont think there couldve been a more complex answer to the question. BUT if you think about it, very acurate cos the person who had a really high forum status would atually be an official corn snake guru or something... although we have already got one of those in the form of one Kathy Love....

And thats why you should never believe the reps...
If the reps really represented anything.... Kathy Love would be top of the reps.... And Rich Z would be higher than 100.....
Christ, you got more than him....:dgrin:

:wavey: Hey Asbit, it turns out we're in the same boat! I'm thinking about going into journalism instead...and then try to get back to and help the herp community that way. I'm thinking a voice in the media with a positive view on herps would be a good thing...(listen to me dream, not only have I succeeded, but I've become well known enough for my opinion to count! lol)

Also, well done on steering this thread away from that funny little three-some :grin01::grin01::laugh::nyah::sidestep:

Kathy truly is the goddess. She'll go out of her way to help, but I think a lot of her rep points are not ONLY for her snake help, but also because she just has a really gentle way about the way she discusses things, even those topics that seem to run amok. There are lots of people with very high reps, but like Mike says, you shouldn't necessarily think that it's all due to their knowledge or experience. However, the comment made by a poster earlier in this thread about "rep cliques" was pretty insulting, IMO. I don't think there are any cliques here. For the most part, people are pretty friendly here considering the large numbers of personalities present at any given time. Many times you'll get repped for friendliness alone. Personally, I prefer to give than receive, and I think that represents a lot of the people here.

Of course I dont think these reflect a really got herper or nothing...
I was just worried tht this rep stuff was something actually used on these forums, and also that i wasnt clogging up this fantabulous site with bad threads n stuff.... see what i mean?

I'm out, or I'd totally rep you for using one of my favorite words: FANTABULOUS!!!

Kloe I would not loose any sleep over reps one way or another. As the folks above have pointed out they are just a way for people to say Hey, I liked what you said. Maybe it will be for giving help on snakes and maybe it will be for advice on feeding your dog.

Nanci is one of the very top people here and (I don’t know I’m guessing) I would bet most of her reps are for helping people. She is constantly helping people.

Robbie is one of the top people here and (guessing again) he is always posting great pictures of his snakes. He is also a chick magnet but that is another story.

My points come from a combination of all of the above. I am always surprised at the reasons I get rep points. It is never on the posts that I thought were really good.

I think you will find that people with points generally know more about snakes than people with none. That is not a hundred percent, but it is a good rule of thumb.

lol...I've found this to be true also. I always just tell myself its because people ran out giving it to Nanci and Robbie.

I used to be number one around here. Rep, posts, etc.-- I was tops. Then Nanci ground me into the dirt and just kept running. Now she's a mod, and I no longer hold that position even. How far will she go? ;)

Good thing I'm awfully fond of her (and Susan, and Jeff, and Rich)!
