Should've Knocked on Wood

Joni Garcia

Gotta love 'em!
Guess I should've knocked on wood when I posted a reply to Carol's "Worst bite so far..." thread. LOL. I said that I'd never been bit by an adult corn. Well, one of my girls decided to fix that problem the next week. I'd say she made pretty good contact too. It startled me, that's for sure. She's pretty fiesty, sometimes strikes at things when in her container, and even made a big scratch in the plastic one day. My hubby always laughs and asks how the "devil snake" is doing.

Unfortunately, my camera isn't as good as Carol's. Well, maybe it's part operator too. I couldn't get good close ups, but I kept the one tooth my girl left behind.

Nice wound lol now you've got some war stories of your own! Isn't it funny how getting bit by our snakes startles us more than being bit by a cat? :D

Awesome pic! :)
Lol, When my sisters cat tries to bite (and he always does, he's naughty) I'm always prepared 'cause he grabs my wrist on both paws and then just slowly gnawing on it lol

Bites! I got hit by one of my boas last night while I was in and out of the chat room. Looked a lot like that. But they always nail me on my right hand and thats my trigger finger for the camera. And most of the time its me and the 8 year old at home alone so no pics. Congrats on your first of what is sure to be many.

Aww...I feel for ya, I got tagged tonight too! But mine was bloodless. Phew.

I knew she was gonna get me, I didn't name her Fiesty for nothin'. Tonight was feeding night and she'd smelled those mice in the tub all evening. When I finally got around to her and popped her lid off she erupted out of the tub and at my hand.

Luckily I was fast enough to avoid skin damage, but she did manage to catch my shirt and constrict it and my wrist before I could think twice. Like to never got her off without her tagging the other hand.

Here's when I finally managed to get her to stop trying to eat my shirt, but she's still got a death-grip around my wrist...

Ya that is a good one!! Good sized mouth there!! Did she bite you simply because she is fiesty?

She's not my biggest corn, but is decent sized at 478 grams. Yeah, she just didn't want me picking her up. :D Guess she'd rather have a poopy cage. When we were little, my Mom used to tell us "Like it or Lump it." Guess this girl will just have to lump it, cause she'd going to have to deal with me... like it or not. She's just nervous, jumpy and fiesty with even the slightest touch. My Mexican Black King is much sweeter than this girl.

Nice picture Misty. Sounds like Fiesty has definitely earned her name. I'd picked up my girl with the hand/arm she bit. I think she was trying to fake me out. She was a bit jumpy, but wasn't looking defensive, flattening her head or getting in the S position (as usual). She let me pick her up and think she was going to be nice. Then, wham... she whipped her head around 180 degrees and tagged my arm. What a girl.

Oh NO! Well I would say now it won't be so scary when they coil up, but I was "snake shy" after my bite for about a week. Everytime some one curled up at all, I wondered what their intent was. Get a magnifying glass and make sure arn't any more teeth. I thought I got them all but after a week of it still being uncomfortable I checked again and pulled out about 5 more, it healed much faster after that.

Wow, five more teeth huh?! Good advice to double check. I'll remember that for the next bite too. :grin01:

Yeah, I have to admit that I was a bit "snake shy" after that bite. Especially when handling her.

I've only had one other close call, but that was with a different snake. I got her out for pictures and had just washed up good. So, I know that I didn't smell like mouse. Well, I must have smelled like something good to eat. She was flicking her tongue, checking things out, but then focused on my hand (right were you got bit between the thumb and forefinger). I recognized all too quickly what was going on when she gave me the "dinner nudge." She opened her mouth wide to clamp on and eat, but I reached over, grabbed her neck with my other hand, and pulled her away. Amazing how quick I was able to react, and she gave me the "where'd my dinner go look?!"

I've got one guy that likes to bite and then hangs on for dear life. He coils around my arm and won't let go until I've had him under the tap for a while! I've never seen teeth and the bites are not bad - he's only on 04. They heal very quickly too. I'm a wimp though and wear gloves when I get him or clean his tub. I have this fear of flinging him across the room when he strikes! I don't mind the bites it's the startle reaction that gets me!

How do you all get those snakes to be so focused on eating?! The best feeder I own (corns) only bit once when I served a second f/t fuzzy to her when she was loosily hanging in my hand, but I didn't watch out what she did. She thought my thumb was the second fuz... I like the fact most of my snakes are docile and friendly but their feeding feistyness could be better!

That's a good picture for the "tattoos" thread, too.

I'm not gonna jinx myself by saying that I've never been bitten by an adult corn, but,,,,,,,,,:noevil:
