I am wondering if i could bring my corn to school for a show and tell sort of thing so iwas wondering if it would stress it ou tor could (only for like 10 mins though) and hoped to to a "corn maze" lol where she tries to find her way to the mouse. thanks

Hunter :)

The show and tell thing doesn't sound that bad to me at all..As long as your snake is friendly and acts well when you have shown her to previous company I think it would be great to show the beauty and share the wisdom of reptiles to a class..The only part I'm not to keen on is the maze..You don't want people thinking snakes are a pet you can mock and not take seriously..I would more take the snake into class and share som info on the care of snakes and explain their importance in the wild...but I dunno..maybe it's just me...I get over serious like that sometimes...

I'd say it depends on your corns age too. I wouldn't take a hatchling to show and tell. A calm subadult or adult would be fine.

I agree...but I did take an adult to my son's first grade class. The teacher was very supportive. The kids all sat in a circle while my son answered the questions as best he could and then I filled in any further information. Then the students, one by one, came up to touch or gently hold part of the snakes body ( they washed hands before AND after). The whole thing went better than I could have expected and the kids were much more willing to accept the snakes and learn about them than many "adults" I've met. I might've helped create a few new herpers and probably irritated a few parents that night...I'm sure most of them went home wanting their own snake.:):):)

As well as being stressful for the Corn, you might want to bear in mind that it could stress you as well! Although you've learned loads over the last few weeks, you could find yourself standing in front of the class with them asking questions you can't answer.

I'd be inclined to wait until the Corn is adult, and you're confident to answer all sorts of questions on husbandry, breeding etc.

Go for it Hunter! :dancer: I've been bringing my collection to schools for years now and it has always been a positive experience. Even the most hesitate students get excited about the animals.
I don't know how old you are, but maybe a parent can help with the show. Make sure it is okay to bring the snake to school; some schools don't allow animals in the classroom. Be sure to be respectful of your classmates feelings, as well as the snake's wellbeing. If a person expresses a desire not to be near the snake respect that. Bring hand sanitizer and make everyone use it before(for your snake's sake) and after (for their safety) the demo. Try to pick a day after the snake has pooped so you aren't remembered for the rest of your life as "the guy whose snake pooped on Sally's foot!" Just in case bring paper towels. Be prepared to answer a lot of questions; bone up on your snake info so you can answer them knowledgeable. If you don't know an answer, don't fake it. Admit you don't know and offer to find out. Misinformation just gives the rest of us a bad rep. Bring a snake shed if you have one. I usually start a demo off by putting it in a cloth bag and let people put their hand into the bag and feel the shed. Then I ask them to guess what it is without the benefit of seeing it. Most people think it is a plastic grocery bag. They are always surprised when you pull it out of the bag, show them it and then pass it around the class. You don't need to do the maze trick to get your classmates jazzed about your pet. They will be thrilled because you are excited to share with them. The feeling is contagious!
Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

crackerhead you gave a great answer! I think the shedding thing is a great idea. If I were new to snakes I think the shedding would be much more interesting than a maze. I would think you would want to make it a learning experience more than a game with a snake. IMO

Yeah i agree the shed thing sound like a great idea... something that would definately have been fun as a kid.

Keep us posted on what happens at the show and tell.

i think taking her to school is a great idea! snakes have a pretty bad rep these days and every little bit helps! i know you said you're not gonna do the corn maze but i just wanted to add that another reason it wouldn't be the greatest idea is because it might offend some people. just a lil more food for thought! let us know how it goes!

Good Luck Hunter! My daughter had taken our adult to school a couple years in a row, for different classes and Tiaga was a hit with most of the students, but not so much the principal who caught my daughter walking the halls with Tiaga, the principal told my daughter in no uncertain terms the snake was to stay IN it's cage till the end of the day and not to be brought to school again! LOL

I hope your teacher allows you to bring you snake in and you have a great time showing him to your class!
