::Sigh:: The holidays got the best of him

My betta comitted suicide by swan toning out of his bowl and onto the floor last night. I found him this morning on the carpet. I knew he got depressed around the holidays but I didn't know how severe it was. Rest in peace little guy...I close my eyes.......only for a moment and the moment's gone.

Naturally I got a new fish later today, but there was 10-15 minutes where I was horribly sad.

hmmm, how to respond to this thread... IM sorry about your fish. Maybe if you put a top on this time, they will just have to suffer through the holidays.

Happy holidays, you and your fish. :D

What's with the weird striped finger?

I had a Betta jump to the carpet of doom before. When I first noticed she was gone I got really mad at my brother, thinking he had put her in one of the other betta's tanks..

Then I found her dried out on the floor. :puke01:

I had his happen to my betta too. >< Two things I can never keep alive- plants and fish... RIP Blue One.

That was our xmas card...here's a more blown up image of it. ::Sigh:: looking back I was just rubbing his face in it. I didn't know he would do this.

Bettas are puddle-jumpers and can actually live for a while out of water because they have a labyrinth lung system. It isn't unusual to have them jump out in search of a "better puddle" if they don't like theirs. You must alway have a top on a betta tank, or have it in a vase where the sides come in at the top.

All that said, I am glad you found a replacement. Happy Holidays!

In addition to that, there are a lot of diseases in betas that can cause them to go insane a minute or so before dying. A beta I had got Cotton Wool disease and leaped out of his water before dying. :shrugs:

Yeah, maybe your taunting him with that finger is just what drove him over the edge (or surface? :shrugs:). ;)

I gave up on bettas after losing Miles Davis (he was < ahem > "kind of blue.....") three years ago. The only "tank maintenance" I want to do now is for bearded dragons.

Sorry for your loss.....and congrats on the replacement.

regards,
jazz
