Yes. I know. There is no such thing as a stupid questions, but this one might take the cake.

It has gotten to the point in the year where I have turned off my heater. As a result, my hands and feet tend to get a little chilly. Yesterday, when I gave Sweetie fresh water, I noticed she was curled up under her water dish (one of her favorite places) so I scooped her out for a second. She tried very hard to get away from my fingers, but settled down and rested stretched along my arm. It got me wondering, would me having cold hands be uncomfortable for her? I mean, crap man, they are like ice cubes!

That's not a silly question at all; it's a considerate one! My daughter ALWAYS has cold hands. The snakes don't seem to like that very much. There are a couple of easy ways to help make them a bit more comfy. You could wear light gloves, which keeps the critters happy but does change the way the whole process feels for you. You can also try soaking your hands in warm water long enough to warm them up before picking up your snake. Just be sure to thoroughly dry your hands, or any dampness will quickly chill.

I think it's - no pun intended - cool that you care!
 
i have the same problem lol i put gloves in the dryer for a couple minutes, then i put them on to warm my hands up if i know im going to handle them. it feels really good and he seems more willing to crawl onto my hands. i do it even when im not handling him its so cold here sometimes.
 
:eek1: Ironically enough I have the very same problem & worried that it may bother my baby. So, I'm not as nutty as my husband thinks.

Wow, I too have the same concern in the winter time. My hands turn ice cold pretty much all night long (which is cuddling time for me and my corn). I try to wash my hands with soap and water before I hold him to get off food smells and bacteria and whatnot...and it also warms up my hands for a bit. Or you can try to hold your snake with one hand and put your other hand under your armpit or somewhere warm for a few minutes and just keep switching off. LOL, it does work :)
 
I'm glad I'm not the only one with that concern. :) My normal body temp is lower then "normal" anyway. Took the doctors forever to decide I was perfectly healthy despite an average temp of 96.2, some times as low as 95.5. So when I have cold hands, they are COLD!

While I would love to warm up some gloves in the dryer, I live in an apartment and it would cost a dollar to run the dryer. Sadly, not an option. Last night, though, I did put my hands on the top of my fish tank light. It was nice and toasty warm. I think Sweetie liked the warm fingers better then the cold ones. :) I use a lap top computer and I will often stick my hands underneath it to warm them up too. I guess I'll just have to remember to fire it up before I get Sweetie out of her viv until spring time. :)

Yeah, I'm the exact same way. My hands are always cold, year round. Gloves don't really help either (you can't trap heat if there's no heat to begin with). The snakes kind of hate it, so I usually let them hang out around my neck instead. Hoodies are a favorite snakes- they get all warm and comfortable in the hood. As other people have suggested, you can always try a handwarmer or putting your hands on your neck. Generally though, the snakes just have to deal with it. You feed them, they have to learn to put up with you. ;)

Ooo! I never thought of the hoodie! I have three that I wear constantly. I'll have to remember that for when she is a little bigger. She's so small right now, I'd be afraid I would loose her. She is learning to deal with me and my cold hands. She crawled right into my hand last night after feeding time. :)
