I spoke to schnebbles about this earlier, she just said give it time...

I purchased two hatchlings a month ago. A snow and an anery. After a week, the snow was super calm and relaxed after being picked up. The anery was not. He jumped at every touch or movement. Now, a month later I bought my second pair of hatchlings. An anery stripe and a normal. Even at day 1, the two new babies are more calm than the anery I've had a month. Will he grow out of this behavior? Should I avoid handling him? Handle him more? I don't want this to be a fight or flight response and it end up getting the 3yr old bit. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Handle the snake more often (once a day) but for shorter amounts of time (5-10 min) until you see a change, then increase the time slowly. Also when a snake is hungry it will be more active.

Give it time and the snake will get use to being handled.

I have heard that aneries are more skiddish, but I have had three and my current one is the only one that is jumpy. She's nice, but she is a lot more squirmy than my normal mot. I think it depends on the individual snake on how fast and how much they calm down. She is definitely handleable, but not as much as the ones I've had in the past. My old anery (the one the cat got) was more like a ball python in behavior, so... they definitely are individuals.

That's the way my new normal girl is. Just like a ball python. I hope she sheds tonight. She hasn't fed in over a week.

I have two butters, one has become very calm (Flavia) and the other (Aurora) is still skittish. Now, with them they are from the same clutch, but the calm one is a bit bigger already. The skittish one is smaller, but not noticeably.

I think its just a matter of giving time. Most will most likely calm by the time they reach adult hood. You will also know before then. If you still notice it to strike as a juvi..then you might consider your options then.

Just my opinion..

Your normal might seem calm right now because she is in shed. Their attitude can change a lot after a shed. So hopefully she stays calm for you. But, I wouldnt worry too much about it. Ive had hatchlings that were super jumpy but they do eventually grow out of it. Some take longer than others but I think once they get out of that new baby stage and start getting some growth to them, they tend to calm down. I have a yearling thats still a little feisty but Im working on her.

My anery is very calm, I love him! He's gonna shed soon too.

I just was saying not to get rid of him so early on. I don't want to see him get passed along to someone else and get more stressed, ya know? I think he'll calm down with time. I'm certainly no expert but I just think he should have a longer chance with you. Us humans just don't know what a snake is feeling, how much stress was caused by moving and how long he might feel scared.

All of my babies are tame now except Pierre, who is tame but wiggly.

Well, i got a ghost bloodred at the end of july and when i got him, all he did is rattle his tail, strike, and when i took him out to try and hold him, he'd just take off, and like yours, was very skittish. although he was a yearling at the time.. Well, now, he is puppy dog tame. You just have to give them time, eventually they will calm down. Now he doesnt rattle or anything, hes fine. It just takes time taming them down. Take him out for a few minutes each day. He'll tame over time, trust me.

my upper keys bloodred rattled too! never tried to bite. My coral ghost wanted to bite but he's fine now. It was my fault, b/c I had to check on them which was good since one got out, I'm glad I checked!
