snake comic...

I've seen that before, but it's well done. To me it's analogous to how the haters/feared see our pets versus how we see our scale babies. We see their sweet little faces and such. To me snakes are so adorable and beautiful that I can't really understand what's not to like.

We used to have a member here who drew comic strips about her snakes. It was amazing.

I got called to a friend's house to remove a giant snake which was actually a tiny baby yellow ratsnake, in her bedroom. I urged her kids to touch it, and the little girl was like, ooh, it's so slimy!! I'm like, NO, it's not! It might feel like that because it's cold, but it is smooth and very dry. Here, touch it again. Here, hold it! I got both the kids to hold the snake before I left.

But I can look at a clutch of baby cobras and all I see is sweet babies, while normal people probably see a basket of death...

Aww, so cute!

I can understand why so many people are afraid of snakes though; they're the subject of horror movies galore, are often used for shock value in the press, and, if you don't know enough to recognise species, are potentially deadly. A lot of people are misinformed about snakes and that leads to misconceptions and phobias that are passed down through the generations.

And baby cobras may be cute, but they are a basket of death. If I was in a country that had venomous snakes, and I saw a species I didn't recognise, I wouldn't be going anywhere near it cute or otherwise.

I agree with what all of you are saying, the reason most people are afraid of snakes is because they don't know a lot about them!

Although the reason my cousin is scared of snakes is because his sister would scare him with them all the time.

Hognose...when trying to win over someone on snakes, if the cute little faces of hatchling hognose can't win over hearts, then I don't know what would.
