snake.. facilities

plasticknives

the bee's knees: all six
this is a slightly odd question- how often should my 3 month old hatchling be uh... using the facilities?

I've fed her three pinky mice so far and she still hasn't left any nice presents in her tank for me... I just wondered how normal this was.

Or am i just not looking hard enough?
?

i can never find any and mines 6 months old the problem with using aspen is that with my corn burrowing through it, it tends to be well buried . i usually notice that mine goes 3 days after eating if i find them lol. when she was a hatchling they were so tiny i only found feces that had fallen on her long and they were tiny

I actually have _three_ snakes that I can't find poo from. Ever. And a fourth that even though I've had her since November, I only found the first two poos last week and this week. Another snake has had his aspen completely replaced due to a water spill- didn't find any poo. It's a mystery to me! Now the adult corn- no problem finding her poo.

The only time I've found poo was when it landed right on me! It's usually about three days after feeding, I guess when I take Hendrix out for some "excercise" it gets things moving, and usually ends up on my clothes. It reminds me of bird poo...kind of black with some white in the middle of it. I don't know if it's supposed to look like that or not really...do you think it should look more like....poo?? :shrugs: :D

Sound's completely normal to me. :)

No Yvonne, that's exactly how snake poo looks when it's healthy :) After it dries it's even more like bird's poo, the clear liquid dries to a white powder

Mine do it about once a week.. or atleast after a few days after feeding. :shrugs:

I am just glad my Corns do not poo like my boa.. yeesh, every time he does that , we think a Dog (Great Dane) got into his cage and pooped.

thanks! I'm glad to know that Hendrix is doing things the way he should be. The last time I had an actual discussion about poo was when I had my last daughter....LOL...always an interesting discussion though isn't it? :crazy02:

I swear mine is like a cat and always goes in the same place in his viv. Its always on the cool side, I guess he doesn't want to go where he sleeps. :)

I had a real hard time finding poo from my snakes, too. What I do is, wait about 2-3 days after feeding, than I take them out(one at a time), and let them "excercise" on a sheet of newspaper until the urge strikes, and they go. After they go poo...I throw the paper away and we have a nice handling session.

I abhor the thought of being pooed on, though I am aware that it will most likely happen at some point. I fiure if I can keep them pooing on the paper before a handling session, we'll all be happier in the long run...

I have a funny poo story from a couple days ago. I had Maizey, my big adult, out watching TV. I set her down on the floor for a minute. As soon as I set her down, she raised up her tail. Now the last time she did that, I thought it was really cute, and then she pooped! So I quickly grabbed her and put my hand under her tail, and ran to the sink, and yes, she pooped in my hand, but at least it wasn't on the carpet!

Tyflier...you should experience all that you can in life...you haven't lived until you've been pooped on by a snake! :roflmao:

Nanci...ewwww....but yes, much easier to wash off of your hand, then the carpet...or your clothes!

Are you kidding me? I have a daughter. Trust me...I've had plenty of nasty body fluids on me in my time. I don;t need it from a snake, too... :crazy02:

I never found my snakes poo for the first three months until they got a little bigger. Now I can't help but see it. When they were little they did a lot of pooping in hides and pooping while buried, now they go right out in the open so I can clean it up, lol. Which I'm grateful for, no more digging for poo when it's time to spot clean.

oh good. it seems i am not crazy.
i guess i should do some digging then!

being pooed on can't be worse then getting musked can it?

I caught a wild caught garter snake to show to my campers one summer, and it musked me.
And i swear to god like 20 handwahes later, it still stank to high heaven. (and i'm talking heavy duty scrubbing here... like grating-off-with-iron-wool heavy duty)

My campers named that snake "Stinky."
It did a good job illustrating that garter snakes are not as scary as they thought though- turns out their main line of defense isn't biting! (although in my opinion its worse. EURGH)

thanks for all the replies- for some reason the search function doesn't work on 'poo' - it says it's too short?

My snake also manages to smear it all over the glass almost every time making it ten times harder to clean up. Well at least its not on me. ;)
