Its atleast an idea
thanks
i was just curious i been researching corns and evry site says how long they get but none say how thick.
btw shortly my albino(reverse) okeetee will be boarding his plane and will be here tommorow ..woohoo
i'm very anxious to meet Sir. Cornelius Slithers

Well...

Tell me about the snake your getting (e.g. size)

Tell me about the vivarium you have set up for him/her.

Do you have the "Cornsnake Manual" by Bill and Kathy Love???

What are you going to feed your snake and how are you going to feed your snake???

Alex

its a male reverse okeetee i don't know its size but its between
5-7 weeks old.

i have a 29 gallon (30"L 12"W 18"H) glass aquarium with a screen mesh locking lid (its smooth to the touch), A 14 watt cobra heat mat running through a reptistat 500R to run around 85F on the hot side and the temp on the cold side is round 75F, I also have a 150 watt lamp and another reptistat that i bought incase the heat mat wasnt hot enough co's my rooms usally cold but i dont think i'll neeed the lamp for that , so now i'am considering running the heat mat at 70F constantly and using the heat lamp on a timer to rasie it 15 degrees during the day. which brings up a question is the night time lower temps mandatory?
I'm using paper towels as substarte
two hides one on the cold and the other on the hot side along with a heavy water dish , and a tree branch made for reptiles (i beleave its actually a type of rubber) and a 15 watt light above the tank for light on a 10 on 14 off hour scheduale. two thermoniters one on each side and a humidity gauge.

i do have the snake manual in front of me half way through it will be finished b4 Sir Slithers arrives.

i'm going to feed frozen mice , i got six (pinkies) from the petco (but for some reson i'm wary of buying em there although they look fine atleast to my newbie eyes) but i've seen lots of websites that sell em.
now the part i havent yet decided is how to feed .
i have a 10 gallon tank that i intend to use when cleaning and don't wanna feed him in it cos i dont want him thinking that evrytime i clean him he's gettin fed. i had a idea of using a red lid (like from a coffee can ) to feed on hoping it would associate the red lid with feeding. but like i said i'm not sure.

Everything sounds fine:D

On 2 of my vivariums I have a heatmat in them which I leave on 24hrs a day and then I have a heat lamp a the end of the vivs which is controled by a termostate. I turn the heat lamps totaly off at night, sothat the heatmats are the only things on during the night.
Day temps.
hot end:85F
cool end:75F
Night time temp:70F

Make sure the water dish is in the cool end.

Buying pinkys for a pet shop is fine as long as the pet shop is good.

I use small containers (1ft x 1ft) to feed my smaller snakes in. Make sure they have lids with holes in. Then after your snake has eaten (takes about 10-15min) just put your snake back into his vivarium. It doesn't matter what colour. You can use anything to hold your snake in while you clean his vivarium.
If you need any other help, jut ask:D

Alex

ok question is the nightly temp drops mandatory?

and i think you misunderstood i was plan ning on using a resd lid in his tnak to feed on cos i dont wanna use the 10 gallon tank for feeding in justn to keep him in while cleaning

Sorry, the temps dont HAVE to be lowered when its night.

I dont really understand what you mean about the red lid thing

Lol..
ok when he's in his home and its feeding time i put the lid down(in his home) then place the pinky on the lid ...hoping the snake makes the connection that when the lid comes down its time to eat..
that sounds realy strange when i say it but then again my jack dempsey (fish) will follow my finger on the side of the tank cos it knows its gonna get a treat

As I understand , although I might be wrong and someone will put me right , but snakes only see in black and white so maybe a red lid wont make a lot of difference. :)

i've read thatas well but i'm thinking of black and white tv..red woulda looked black and i think it would notice the black circle on the white paper towel..does that make sense

To be honest I would just put him in the other tank to feed or when you clean his cage , I dont think theyll be any problems.

You could always combine the two and clean his cage just after youve fed him while hes in the other tank. He wont need a major "muck out" that often as long as you spot clean as needed.
