snake sneeze / squeek

hello there, the other morning i woke up to my snake rustling around in her plants as usual but i kept hearing a little squeek every now and again. only every so often, i have kept a close eye and she has just done it again now. sounds a bit like a little snake sneeze or something? has anyone ever experienced this? and also what should i do? do you think there is something wrong with her?

she shed just over a week ago, she isnt doing it now, its only every so often? i was thinking maybe it is dust from aspen? you know sometimes its a bit dusty . . . ?

I wouldn't blame the aspen, but sometimes after a shed snakes will make a squeaking or whistling sound. I'd watch her very, very closely for repeated sneezing, breathing with her mouth open, bubbling out her mouth. If it persists after the next shed, or if anything changes/gets worse, then it wouldn't hurt to go to the vet. Any respiratory issues are way easier to treat if caught very early.

Yes, I agree with NANCI. It could be the substrate your using or an extra dry condition. Do you have something in the viv to monitor humidity?

If that is OK, then you may want to increase the temp in the tank a bit because, if this is the beginning of a URI, then the increase in the heat, can help correct the issue. If the problem persists or you start noticing some of the other symptoms that NANCI mentioned, then you will have to schedule a trip to the vet.

Keep an eye on her and good luck,

Wayne

hello, thank you for your replies, i will keep a close eye on here. i cant see any mucus in her mouth or coming out of it, its only now and again she does it so i'll just monitor to see if it becomes more frequent. many thanks

wouldnt hurt after a week to take it to a vet- our cornsnake began weezing and bubbles started showing around her nostrils. turned out it was a URI.

A thing about the meds they might give your snake if this is the case- do NOT freak out if your snake has a bizarre reaction- cannot for the life of me remember the name of the liquid med we gave our corn, but within 5 minutes of placing her back in the cage after her first dosing...
she proceded to drool, rear back and went "yealch". they will try to spit it out, thats natural.

I've had my snake for 3 years now almost, and she has always "sneezed/wheezed." I've taken her to the vet several times because I'm paranoid, and she is always fine. The vet told me as long as there's no mucus coming from her nose or mouth, and she's acting fine, don't worry about it. Just make sure there's no mucus, and maybe take the snake to the vet just to be sure, but don't freak out. I couldn't find anything online about this situation when I first noticed it, and I got really scared, but my snakes been ok.

The thing you really want to look out for with snakes' breathing is if you hear any sort of a "popping" noise. That means that there is mucus present and it's definitely time to go to the vet. Otherwise, just try to regulate the humidity and keep a close eye on the situation.

Just found this thread from searching. Took my snake out a few minutes ago and she "sneezed"...at least it sounded like a sneeze. She's never done this before. She IS nearing the blue phase, that's why I am commented because Nanci mentioned it might have to do with that and I was curious to know how/why it has anything to do with coming into blue. Thanks!

Mouse makes a "sneezing" sound that I think is actually just a short hiss when I surprise her or tease her with a pink.

When i got my Bp from a friend i noticed right awa that it had a strong exhale wheeze and i thought it was a respirator infection because they had poor heating for it. but after introducing some hydration options for it it cleared up.
