snake wont eat

hello again the snake still hasnt eaten but is still lively, it has shrunk in its stomach area more, i was thinking that it knows it needs a diet and is doing it on its own, i hope it starts to eat soon

Okay honey, one thing. i dont think that it is possible for a 9 month corn to be 34 inches. usually they would be about 17 inches, mine is about 18 inches and she is 11-12 months. did you get your dates right?

your snake is gorgeous, but corny Noob is right. ever three days can damage your corns spine because the bones cannot grow fast enough for the body. if your corn is 34 inches, i think he is just going on a diet. try every five days, thats the time most people use for corns under a year. bye bye.

here are pictures of the snake

Hi Karlee, That snake does not look fat or underfed and it is around 34". So maybe it is a fast grower or the date of hatch was given to you incorrectly. So it won't eat, my guess might be the viv, put lots of hides and fake plants so it feels secure. Start feeding bigger prey (you don't say what size you feed) less often. A snake can go a month without eating. I would also treat it somewhat like a hatchling let it get used to the surrounding without taking it out, except to feed. You could even try putting the feed in with the snake in a feeding tub. So put mouse in feeding tub and put the tub in the viv, no lid. Watch to make sure the snake doesn't drag it out. I'm sure your snake will come around. susang

the paper that said the last feed when i bought the snake said Feb 18th 07 as the hatch date, i got it on April 5th 07, i feed it fuzzy mice, it had a larger circumfrence it has lost about 1/2 a inch i thought that shedding every month seemed odd, (the snake shed every month until this month) and that means it grew, we have lots of hides and and a hot or cold side of the tank

Actually my hatchlings and yearlings shed pretty close to every month. You know the temps (although lately there is controversy over temps). I have a four yr old that sheds every weeks but it takes him two weeks to shed and he won't touch food, ad he's huge. Feb. is a very odd month for hatchling, most people don't start beeding until Feb. I'm sorry if you said this but when was the last time it ate? I have one that didn't eat last week and she looked normal, today when I went to feed her very blue. So she will have gone almost three weeks without eating. :shrugs:susang

when my snake sheds it takes over night, and it hasnt eaten for about 3 weeks (we moved it into a new bigger tank) and it hasnt eaten or shed since:shrugs: the snake is still moving around at night when the lights are off and im sitting watching tv (as the tank is in the livingroom), we sit and look at each other and i talk to the snake, i have the same temp that i have had since i got the snake is that a good thing? i thought about the snake being cold so maybe it wouldnt eat, so covered half the top of the viv with a towel hope that helps thanks

i think that your snake will be ok, just take peoples advice and maybe call your vet to make sure, calls dont usually cost anything. good luck :) ;)

That's a beautiful snake, but there's nooo way that the hatch date is correct, you have yourself an 06 and I do recind my previous statement about being overwieght, he does look fine, but just make sure that you're not feeding him every 3 days like you had mentioned previously.
As susan has already said they sometimes can go for awhile without food I still wouldn't bee too worried.

Also the temps you mentioned, what are they?

Your snake looks nice and healthy in those pics. As already mentioned, changing to a once a week feeding schedule at this point is a good idea. A shed schedule of once a month is perfectly normal and expected. I'm sure your snake has been stressed by the move, but 3 weeks should be enough time to get accustomed to the new viv. Double check the temps, make sure that the place, method and prey hasn't changed, and don't creat additional stres by offering food too frequently. At this point, offer only every 5-7 days. If your snake still won't eat, offer something special, like a rat pinky or a live prey to see if your snake just needs a little "jump start".

how big are hatchlings at 2 months usually? i got the snake and it was 2 months old and was 12-13 inches long and about the size of a pencil in width and only able to day old pinkies and sometimes just heads

here is the snake about 2 months after i got it

no the age when the pictures were taken the snake was 4 months, and no i am using aspen for the viv, the pet store i got the snake from said the calcium sand was the best for the snake.....i found this website and quit using the sand right away, and have told them not to use it and they havent listened to me with the last visit to get crickets for the chameleon they had 3 corns and they were all on sand

I am thinking you have a nice, huge healthy snow. Are the ambient temperatures in your house getting cooler? (I see you are in BC.) Some snakes take that as a cue to go off feed for a while. I wouldn't worry!

the snake has still not eaten, but it did poop just a bit, i got heat/humitity gauges in the tank now and a new heat pad, i am going to get some fuzzies and a hamster to try

the new items must have help as the snake ate, it was only a fuzzy but thats ok, thanks to all of you for your help it was very much appreciated
