does my baby corn love music or something ? his viv is in my room and every time i plug my guitar in to my amp and start practicing/playing he starts to come out of his hide peeking at me and eventually comes all the way out and rest his head over his log hide and just looks at me for a good wile, i mean at least i have one fan. But to be serious do you think it is disturbing him wile hes trying to chill or he loves it for the vibrations and vibes he gets from it.

cool!!! he is probably just wondering what the vibrations are, but you have a rock baby!! (I assume thats what you play)

Hi,

snakes are extremely sensitive to vibrations. Because they are nearly deaf, they have to rely on this sense to detect danger (let's say from larger animals). Loud music can feel like an earthquake for them. Probably he comes out of his hiding, because he's afraid of getting buried.
It's probably not so good to scare him like that.

I expected to see some nice guitars and snakes .
I will try to make some pics from mine this week and post them .
But maybe this is the wrong thread and should I post it in miscellaneous thread (?? )

FYI, this isn't actually the case. I know it's what was taught for years, but current science says that corn snakes (and others) actually have fair hearing. There have been several interesting threads on the forum about this this topic. You can do a search if your curiosity is piqued. Here's a link to one brief thread, which itself has a link. http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45813&highlight=snake+deaf+hearing

As for why the OP's snake comes out, yes, it's probably related to vibrations. But I like music, and hey wow, that's technically because of the vibrations, too! You have a fan. :dancer:

Ok, my bad.
So snakes CAN hear, in a very small rage od 200 to 300 Hz better than cats (so it's said).
Thank you, Caryl, I really didn't know, they can hear that well. I did a little searching and this threads did impress me most:

And with this in mind I think it should be even more clear that the snakes feel not attracted but disturbed by loud guitar playing. Even more during the day, when it wants to rest.

Greetings,
marike

i dont know man hard to say if he likes it or not we are not snakes lol hell people didn't even know snakes could hear somewhat till recent, its only a 15w practice amp anyway not to loud considering. If it is making him pissed he does not show it to well when i reach in to the viv for him after my playing hopefully he will adapt to the weird things i do in my room and the strange noises or company that comes in to it haha its all good it spices up and makes his civilized snake life more interesting no?.

Corn Snakes are adaptable. I think, he can get used to it, maybe.
But maybe it will be better if you play guitar just in the evening (or using headphones like my boyfriend). Imagine your direct neighbor starts to play loud music in the middle of the night, when you want to sleep. Will you get used to it?

Unless you're blasting the amps, your snake will adjust. We need to show consideration to the pets, particularly when they're very small, new to our home, or ill, but they are indeed adaptable. A certain amount of adjustment to the schedules and needs of the humans with whom the snakes live is the requisite trade-off for constant clean, fresh water, a home-y predator-free viv, a comfortable temperature gradient, and meals delivered on a reasonable schedule.;)
