Snakes...enjoy massages?

Shelliebear

Team Snug
My new ball python, Nergal, was sitting on my giant heart pillow today and being very cuddly. I stroked him on the side of his body, from his neck down to his tail. Wherever my finger was touching as it moved, he would curl that part up around my hand and tense, and then let it go as my hand moved away.
It was the reaction I would have had if someone was giving me a back rub XD
So I'm wondering, do snakes enjoy being stroked in the direction of their scales? Or was he just being cuddly?
Thanks. :)

no idea on the question, but Nergal is an awesome name. Gonna get a girly ball and name her Aunt Sis?

I can't speak for BPs but in Corns that muscular reaction to being touched tends to be either a mating response or a "stop doing that" response! Depends how much he likes you I guess :)

Lol. Maybe. XD
We got the name from the vocalist of Behemoth. Hehehe! My Nergal is a sweetie.

Nergal, Babylonian god of disease, the blighting sun and lord of the all the underworld.

Kind of wonder how a snake with a name like that can't have a bad temper. ;)

We just recently got some Kisatchie corn snakes from KJUN and the bigger of the two loves massages. She is content to sit in my boyfriends (army_greywolf on here) arms and get massages.

I have nine ball pythons, and I find them to be the ultimate "cuddly" snakes. They do seem to enjoy being petted, and it is really relaxing for me to hold them as well.

Sometimes two of my corns let me give them massages, and sometimes they just shove me off with their coils. My bp sometimes lets me do it too, but most of the time he's trying to find food.

When Marbles isn't in an exploring mood, he too seems to like being "petted" along his back. It's very comforting for me too.

Lol, I know, Gothpixel--we had been wanting to get a really evil looking snake and name it "God", but neither of the ones we have bought thus far have been evil enough--all too sweet and cuddly! :D So on my ball python, we gave up and figured, ok, sweet or not he'll have a bad ass name. :)

And also, Cheesecake NEVER sits still long enough to hold her, let alone touch her--I think it's because she is so young. But Nergal lets me hold him for hours and is content, and when I rub his back he seems to be enticed to stay a little longer. :)

My 7yr old told me this other day. She said "give them a back rub...they love it!" I just laughed! I always wondered why she could pull one of the snakes out & keep em' w/ her for hrs! NOW I know! They LOVE her massages!!!! :D

My Sylvara loves to be petted but the baby, Sigyn is still too jumpy. Sylvara loves for me to rub her chin. If I don't do it she will do it herself. It's kinda how they act when they are about to shed only she does it every time I hold her. She also likes to be stroked the length of her body. She will lay still for a very long time while I do it.

That is very possible but can we loook at the other possibilities? What if it hurts it, Maybe its gesturing this. But if you know your snake well you should be able to differ.
