Snakes make my hands dry and a goofy question to boot

midnightgallop

I can't type...
Between having reptiles and being an artist, I wash my hands A LOT. This reuslts in chapped hands, which leaves me putting lotion on them many times throughout the day. Now, my question: Do you think it would hurt the snake in any way? I am worried the lotions (which are always slightly greasy even after it's dried) will absorb into the snake's skin or on the snake and cause harm? I know this is kind of goofy, but I can't help but wonder if osmosis could make my lotioning habits toxic to my snakes...

I have a hand washing thing because of OCD

I use Johnson's Baby Lotion to keep my hands from chapping. I would think it would be safe.

I use a 100% natural lotion that my Uncle makes out of his bees wax. I have really callused feet (I hate socks & shoes, so I'm always running around barefoot) and this lotion is AMAZING...Once a day application. :) I also use it on my hands a couple times a week.

Anyway, I've never had any adverse affects with my snakes with it, probably because it's all natural. I would however be concerned about other lotions. What ingredients are listed on the lotions you use?

Thanks Rich. Maybe I'll try the baby lotion as I would think that would be safer than most lotions if they aren't natural.

Thank you blckkat for responding as well. I had been using some lotion I got from the body shop and it has lots of ingredients that I know are probably not natural. Maybe I should try a tea tree oil thing? I'll give the baby lotion thing a go too. Someone told me about Burt's Bees stuff...does that work? Thanks guys :)

another thing to think about is instead of useing lotions.... use creams. They dont usually have as much mineral oil, petroleum oil and other oils in them... Plus you dont have that greasy feeling when you are done rubbing it in :)
