So I need lots of help... surprise eggs. -__-

Wow guys. Yeah I totally didn't want any bashing or rude comments folks. Just some simple advice is all I asked for. I love this forum, just not the criticism it comes with sometimes. I'm tempted to just delete the thread and take matters into PMs from kinder, more understanding members on here just to avoid that.

I have a lot to learn, and I don't have to be yelled at or lectured to understand. Even such now, that I should avoid releasing them into the wild. No one has to scream it in my face, just explain it and respectfully, I'll take the advice and learn.

Some people are friendly and some people not so much. Others maybe are just having a bad day. Just keep asking whatever questions you have and use your own judgment with whatever info is offered (I'm sure you're already doing that).

STOP THE INSANITY!!!!! What is wrong with you people? Thinking like this is why humane societies exist. Are you serious??? Hatch the eggs so you can pawn the problem off on someone else? Pet stores always take animals?? Um, no! Let them go because they are native to Florida?? :nope:

My personal favorite: People will take them if you don't want them. Priceless.

On one hand, I sincerely hope you both are under 18 and just don't know any better. On the other, this is the future of our hobby??

The last time I checked I turned 24 in April, I know quite a bit about finding homes for unwanted or unneeded animals and have personally worked in my fair share of pet stores.

You, my friend, should slow down and think before you react in such a way. I was giving them ideas on what they could do with the babies, if and when they hatch and survive.

I personally, would hatch the eggs and pick my keepers and try to find homes for the rest, the ones that I don't find homes for, I trust the local pet stores to find homes for them. What exactly is wrong with that? They actually see more people than I do. Doing so would help me get the experience that I need for my future clutches, you know, the ones I want to hatch out because they have the genes I pick.

I sincerely hope you are under 18 and don't know how to talk to people who want to learn. If you are not, I really feel sorry for anyone asking you for advice.

Absolutely - everyone has a valid opinion and it's rare that everyone will agree on every point! This is certainly an interesting and thought-provoking discussion.

Umm, the OP is DID NOT mate this pair & didn't know she was going to get surprise eggs & seems to have said she will keep them until she finds homes for them, although I realize there was "at worst I can release them" remark. I don't see this as all that irresponsible. AND she did ask for advice & admitted she was new. Can we be a little more gentle here to the OP? Thanks!

Sorry, let me be clear that none of what I said was directed at the OP. It was some of the advice she was getting that I took exception to. She does seem like she is going to be responsible about it. I was more concerned with others who might read this thread.

You were clear, thank you.

[EDIT] No, don't be that mean. [/EDIT]

[EDIT] Sure they deserve it, but don't do it. [/EDIT]

[EDIT] Really, leave it alone. [/EDIT]

EDIT] Really, some people participating in this thread need to remember that while of course differences of opinion are fine, and to be expected, and while everyone has the right to defend their position, personal attacks will not be tolerated. [/EDIT]

No one has crossed the line yet- please be respectful! Thank you!

If the OP is still on and gets hatchlings I will be happy to take two for the cost of shipping. I would probably do the same except the feeding to a king. I want a king but only for any DIEs and badly kinked babies. I once mis-wrote on here that I would use it for excess amels and normals but that wasn't what I really meant. I can put my foot in my mouth with the best of them lol. Seriously if the OP gets babies and has trouble placing them I will take two for the cost of shipping. You don't even have to know if they are male or female, I can check that.

First, I apologize for overreacting.

Here is why I overreacted. Let's take some of the statements that were made and change "snake" to "kitten":

"Then give them away when they are born since they won't be worth too much. I'm sure you can find people who want free kittens."

"Pet store's almost always take in unwanted kittens from people."

"People will take the kittens if you don't want them."

"I can let the kittens go in the woods behind my house and let them try out life on their own."

I hope everyone is offended by these statements now.

It wasn't even the exact statements made, but rather the line of thinking that this thread was turning into that alarmed me. This line of thinking is why we are overpopulated with cats, why humane societies need to exist and why thousands of cats are put down every year. If this line of thinking starts to persist in the snake world, it's not much of a stretch to think that eventually snakes will fall victim to the same fate as cats.

SweetSeraph, I just want to commend you for making these excellent points! I volunteer regularly at an animal shelter and the amount of unwanted pets, just in my small area, is really heartbreaking.

I understand the OP's situation, and this isn't directed towards him/her. However, simply breeding any old corn for the sake of experience, or a fun project, is not responsible or moral in my opinion. Just like it isn't appropriate for domestic cats or dogs. Take a look on craigslist, there are always people trying to give away corns, especially amels & normals. Maybe not as many as kittens or puppies, but they are there. I'm not against breeding - for the sake of a goal or perfection of a morph/breed - but otherwise I just don't think it's fair to the animals involved or the other animals which need homes already.

Sorry for the long post, it's just something I feel really strongly about!
