So, my cat jumped my neighbors fence about an hour ago and he still isnt home....

Taxidermy

everything under the sun.
My cat is very skittish, he doesnt come to anyone but me or my mother. he jumped over my neighbors fence about an hour ago, so my dad went to go look in their yard. he got frighetened and then proceeded to jump over the back fence into our back neighbors yard and we cant hear his tags and he wont come to us. So we have left him alone, and im sad that he is missing. I feel like he wont come home as he is mostly an indoor cat but has tags and is neutered. /: anyone have any experiance with this?

Yes. When i was young my mom always had a cat. They are very resourceful animals. I am sure he will come home when he is ready.

Don't worry. He knows where to be when his tummy rumbles!

I have two cats. They're outdoor cats and they come and go as they please. One of mine will stay out for days at a time on occasion. But they always come back when the mood suits them.

:) He came home this morning, he was sitting out side our porch with a bird actually. To think, he left completely scared, and now hes brought home a kill

Great news! I wouldn't start letting him out, though. I've sadly lost two cats to cars. My daughter has a cat that was always an indoor/outdoor cat, but she moved and didn't want him to get out. Of course, he eventually did, and was gone for three weeks, though there were reports of him in the neighborhood. Finally he returned, and came in the house, only to escape again hours later! But apparently now he knows how to find his way home and comes and goes like he did at the old place.

Glad to hear he's back!

I think cats should be allowed outside, personally, but then I've always kept outdoor cats. True they may have an accident, but bad things can happen in the home too! :)

My folks used to let their cats out until they lost two to cars within four months. Then they all became indoor cats. One of them - the Maine Coon - started deteriorating and died within a year, and I think (without having physical evidence) that it was because he didn't take to his new lifestyle. If you raise them as indoor cats, though, they often are afraid to go out even if they have the opportunity. Anyway, I have no recommendation despite my strong attachment to cats. I'm glad yours returned, though. Good call, Becks.

Yeah, I think it can be different if they're raised as indoor cats, but I still don't agree with it. I guess it's based on my experiences with my own cats.

I have two at the moment. One spends most of her time outside and cries if you shut her up in the house. The other, though they're both given the same freedom to come and go, is happiest in the house and only goes out once or twice a day to potter round the garden. I think it depends to a certain extent on the individual animal.

I just can't help feeling that cats shouldn't be cooped up. Sally, the one who likes to go out, for example is terrified of the vaccuum cleaner - if I'm hoovering and she's in the house she'll scream at the door to be let out. When the nasty roaring monster returns to its cupboard, she comes back. Maybe it'd be different if she'd always been an indoor cat, but I just don't feel right keeping them in the house.

Personal preference I guess :shrugs:

The only way he will ever go out again is if hes on one of those ridiculous cat leashes :grin01:. Other than that, I don't think my family will ever let him out, ever again. He was raised as an indoor cat, which is different to us because we've always had outdoor cats and have never had a problem, they all died due to age. I currently have two cats. One that is an inside cat, and the other who guards the front porch and ventures down into the storm drain from time to time. But our Bob is to precious to have anything happen to him, I don't think i've ever been so attached to a cat before. Anyway, here's a picture of the fiend ...

He's a fine looking cat. If you actually consider it, I can state that we have had great success with a walking jacket for Stella. With a harness, she would sometimes pull enough to get choked, but with the walking jacket, we can yank her out from under bushes with no ill effects. Walking a cat is nothing like walking a dog, but I always thought it was a good way to keep some of her fur from getting on our floors/clothes/furniture.

Isn't that crazy how he's hardly ever been out, and the one time he does get out, he manages to make a kill?? I used to have this cat, Porky. She was a stray. She was up in my pine tree yowling and yowling, so I let her in the house, and adopted her. I took her to the vet to have her spayed, and the vet says "Had this cat long? She's already been spayed!" But she had a piece of ovary left that was making her go into heat, and yowl. So she was this tough, street-wise cat. I'd never been a cat person, but I loved her. She could hunt like crazy! I had three bells on her, and she still managed to get birds, rabbits, squirrels, mice. We'd take her up to the cabin and within minutes of being let out of the car she'd be back with a mouse. Guess how she ended up- hit by a car- a cat that had been on her own for who knows how long.

So we got a couple more cats, now that we were cat people. Koko, who was a stray Siamese. At first he was named Abby, until I took him to the vet and found out I couldn't sex cats. Then a fancy Siamese from a breeder, Yum Yum. (Named after fictional cats in The Cat Who series, who were named after characters in The Mikado.) They were indoor cats. Then my sister's outside stray cat had kittens, and we moved out to the country, and took two of those. BK and Kali. They were both outdoor cats, hunters, who came in at night. There was a rule- all cats had to be in before dark. One time BK, my favorite (he even has a song about him!) disappeared for two weeks. I was heartbroken. One day my daughter woke me up (I worked nights) by screaming "He's home!" He was skinny and beat up, but ok. We had a tornado and BK and Kali were outside at the time. They returned that night- who knows what they'd been through. One night, Kali didn't come home. When I left for work at 10PM, there she was at the end of the driveway, hit by a car. She was my daughter's favorite.

Eventually, their luck runs out. But they sure want to be outside. My friend has a cat that goes out on a leash, on a stake, and seems to enjoy it, but she was raised that way.

Here's my Beefers (BK). He's safe and sort of sound up in Minnesota with my ex. He got diabetes in his old age, but it's manageable so far. He takes trips to Florida every winter in a motorhome. I got to see him last spring.

BK's Song:

Little BK
Little BK

Stripes and spots
Likes to go for walks

Always in a fight
Can't walk right

Ears like lynx
Likes to lay in sinks

Awww

He is adorable! Also, i'm sorry to hear such things. We had a few cats that just disappeared, it's a horrible feeling. I think that is why I always get so upset when I cant find one of our cats. :/ I wouldn't like to think about what may have happened to them, they were both beautiful calicos too. I've yet to actually find one of our cats as road kill ): and I hope we never do. Aside from that, i've always been a cat person. I grew up around them . I was never around dogs so much, and having dogs around is great and all, but I can't say im too fond. I do love them though. -has two-
