Solved my rat problem!!!

Velvet

Totally corn crazy!!!!
Hi Everyone!

I am so thrilled I just HAD to share this with you all!!

Okay, I breed rats and mice for food (though the rat parents are pets) for the snakes...But right now I have 4 breeding female rats and only one snake that eats rats, so needless to say, they were breeding faster than poor Battle could eat them! lol

So I have been collecting quite a rat population in my freezer! lol Was wondering what the heck I was going to do with all of them!

So the other day I hauled out three fuzzies to feed to my little chaps and it occured to me that the fuzzies looked about the same size as some newborn rats I had in the freezer, so I hauled them out and weighed them and what do you know! The Newborn rats weigh slightly less than the fuzzies I had!!!

So I thought, what the heck! Let's see if I can get them to eat rats...and they did! No hesitation from any of them!!! Such good babies!!!! It's been 3 days now and they have digested them just fine!!!

There goes my rat problem! lol I now have 4 rat-eating snakes!!! Wooohooo!!!!! :crazy02:

your snakes will love eating rats. With the production from your rats you may no longer need to purchase any mice at all!!!

My corns all seem to take rats eagerly, as they do mice and asf rats. Rat pinks are usually around 7-8 grams which is the weight of a mouse fuzzy.

I've seen some claims that feeding corns all rats will make them fatter, but I don't know how true that is.

I have noticed that my corns fed mostly ASF rats seem to be growing more quickly than others fed only mice, but none seem overweight. I guess it might get to be a problem as they get older and stop growing in length.

I have heard that rats are more "fattening" than mice and have experienced this for myself. My older snake Battle, really started picking up weight and filling out once he was on rats!!!

But I have also heard that rats don't quite have the same nutritional value as mice so I will alternate feeding mouse fuzzies and newborn rats.

I have a snake that flat out refuses to eat rats. I have to scent them with mouse first before he eats them. A friend of mine has corns that won't eat rats either...Sheeesh! lol

Luckily I don't have to buy mice either as I breed these too, I have one colony of rats and two mouse colonies!! lol The mice are still young though so haven't started producing really well yet! lol Unlike the rats! lol
