Some questions about flexwatt and wiring.

I tried reading through as many of the posts about flexwatt as I could bring myself to make it through... but haven't found a few of the answers I was looking for.

1. When clamping the clips onto the flexwatt (in this case 11") must I have that $70 tool? Or can I just use pliers?

2. I was reading on The Bean Farm that I can't plug it directly into a dimmer...? Is this true? Do I actually have to splice it into the cord? It also said I shouldn't cut both wires to splice in the dimmer... is this also true?

3. If I can't plug it into a dimmer, can I plug it into a thermostat? And if so, what the heck is the difference?? :)

Aaaand, like a fail, I realize I posted this in the wrong section *ugh*. Mis-clicking for the loss.

I soldered my wires on no clamps. Just scrape the plastic back. I also plugged mine into a thermostat. Lee

I use pliers to clamp mine down - never had a problem.

Plugging into a dimmer is essentially the same thing as wiring to a dimmer. Both are transporting electricity. I don't see the difference, but I am not an electrician - I will humbly accept my failed logic if someone more educated corrects me.

Yes, you SHOULD plug directly into the thermostat.

Thanks for all the advice! I did end up using pliers with the clamps (since I don't know how to solder), and wired in the dimmer cause it looked so easy :) I just needed a little confidence... It worked out really well!

One more question though... at Home Depot the guy had me get this 14-2 NM-B w/ground Indoor copper building wire. Is that necessary? Or would any insulated copper wire work?
