I saw this article in the Offbeat section of ccn.com:

Short article, but I wonder how many of you with multiple snakes would agree with this...

There was another article that I saw in last week's People magazine about the movie Snakes on a Plane; the trainer who supplied the snakes mentioned several myths regarding snakes: they don't hiss with their mouth open, they'd rather not attack but instead hide, they don't fly...I think that these were the myths he mentioned. Any other myths to dispel?

I guess my choice would be that snakes are not evil incarnate. My Oma is a Jehovah's witness & while I haven't told her that I have 2 snakes, I know that she's pish-posh the idea of it because haven't I read this latest tract...? Don't get me wrong, I love her dearly, but someone trying to tell me that an animal caused the downfall of man is ridiculous. Wasn't Adam just as much to blame for agreeing to that apple as Eve? Sounds like a good case of human error to me.

I agree with you on this! Now, no doubt the serpent offered Eve the apple, but she made the choice to take it when she knew she really shouldn't.

But haha... getting off track a bit... interesting article! Can't say I'd noticed snakes "go" that much, but maybe if you had 500 on the set you would notice.

I always thought it was a lizzard that tricked Adam and Eve into eating the fruits ( :shrugs: ), and that god cursed the lizard by removing it's legs....
So, doesn't that make the slowworm the Evil one? :shrugs:

I have to agree that when you have multiple snakes, it does become a problem. I have had panther for about a month now and hes not pooped in his own tub once... All over me sure, all over the bed aye, on the floor, in Scarletts tub!!! Hes just not a gentleman when it comes to pooping.

The hatchlings are pooping machines, the boas are a completely different story. Even at a very young age its like cleaning up dog crap!

Pine snakes I know for a fact, DO hiss with their mouths open. See my latest post, in which I have posted a picture of him with his mouth open while hissing...

As for the second half of the quote; you are talking about a work of fiction in which a snake talks to a man and woman - funny how none of my snakes tell me to do anything (reverse evolution possibly?). Even if they did, that would lead me to believe Adam and Eve were the dumbest people ever to live - listening to a snake? Definitely not a good start to the beginning of mankind.

If you friend thinks your snakes are a "symbol" of sin, ask her if she thinks god is all good and all powerful (answer: "Yes"). Why then, would a benevolent creator, create one single malevolent animal? Hmm... I smell a disconnect here... Were there snakes on Noah's Ark? LOL LOL LOL

I should've mentioned: "Oma" is the diminutive form of "grandmother" in German; I've never called her anything else, and I grew-up under the impression that everyone had an Oma & a grandma, just a childhood assumption. Anyway, as Oma is now 83 & we've had plenty of heavy religious discussions in the past (she's read the Bible many times & in 3 languages...), I'm not about to get technical with her about Noah's Ark & so forth. I'd rather take an apple from a lounging lizard/reptile/snake! She's wonderful & she's willing to listen, but wow -- you better be ready for an earfull (and she's hard to stop once she's gotten started!).

My thought about the malevolent animal bit would be that maybe God was trying to give the snake a second, redeeming chance. Then again, it's been ages since I last read anything about Noah's Ark, and the last time I talked about it was when I explained the opening scene of "Muppets in Space" to my culturally-mixed group of 2nd graders (as Muslims don't have the Ark story...).

And, hmm...maybe you should contact the snake handler for the snakes in the movie & let him know about the Pine snake...I only got my info from him, which made me think, "Hmm, wow, that's interesting..." Learn & unlearn something new every day. Thanks.
