Soo.. Annoying..

Hey! Its soo annoying.. Damien is Always in a ball! Its really hard getting him out of his viv when he is all curled up, he gets really scared and just stays curled up for age's Im considering getting a snake hook to help me get him out, but maybe thats a little extreme, I'm not scared of Damien, I only fear that if he struck at me and bit me i would pull away from him and he would get hurt, When out he is a star, I can go face to face with him, He has my trust, i have is, but when going to get him out, Its hard.. Ive read and watched on many videos that not to reach in a grab the snake anywere near the back of its neck because it will feel threatend and strike, how can i not? When he's curled up, everywere i try to grab him he just sorta "pulls back his neck" (looks me in the eye) And says (touch me and ill strike) basically like a trigger of a gun..

I must sound so perfetic, This has always been an Issue with Damien, From day one, i guess its probably my fault now that he's hard to get out, if i was abit better at the start i guess he would be okay now, But anyways, i cant change what has happend, He is just hard to get out, and i need a way to make him Easy to get out, All suggestions are GREAT!

I usually find a point in the curl about half way along the body, wrap a couple of fingers around gently, and then support the rest of him with my other hand. Works a treat, but mine's very small, so I'm not sure how it'd work with bigger corns.

Hey George. You know what you need? You need to have a feeding day where you have dozens of snakes to take care of, and other things to do. I don't have time to hesitate and play games with the snakes. 80%+ don't want to be taken out, but I just have to go in and grab them. What stresses them out is when your hand swoops in for them, then you back out, then you swoop in, then you back out, etc., etc.. If you just grab Damien swiftly and decisively each time, he'll soon be conditioned to just accept it.

Sometimes I'm also afraid of a reflex action of mine hurting a striking snake. If I think a snake's going to have a go at me, I look away so I only see the snake out of the corner of my eye. Then I just grab them. This way, if they strike, it will happen before I actually see what's going on, and my hand won't jerk back. It works!

Thanks Roy, Damien is such a great snake, just had him out for 5-10Min's and I enjoy his company loads, i wont be swooping in and out from now on, ill use both of your ways, If i think he's going to strike, Ill Look from the corner of my eye, But i will always just get in there and Grab him, He will soon learn I'm sure of it : ) Still waiting on some new bedding, his current bedding is getting a Little smelly, i have removed all waste in there, I will Remove all bedding and change that next week : )
Umm, I think ill just wipe down the Viv with water, i heard 3% disinfectant, but that just complicates me and I'm more then sure no-one sells reptile safe disinfectant in my town..

Once you get comfortable with yours, try getting an Asian ratsnake for one to practice alternate handling techniques...They also "tolerate" handling.....

I can now, Thanks to The advise earlyer, But Before that, he used Pull back his neck and stare at me, it just made me feel really jumpy around him, However When i just went right in and used my fingers and my other hand, he come without even doing anything, I'm going to do that everytime he's curled and i want him out : )
