Spiders...

TripleMoonsExotic

I <3 Stripes!
...and I'm not talking about the good kind of Spiders (ball pythons)...

I almost wrecked last week because this massive spider crawled out of the vent on my dash and proceeded to climb up the windshield to above my head (I have severe arachnophobia). The night after a smaller one did the same thing...And then tonight an even bigger spider then the first swung down a thread of web when I opened the passenger side door from the inside for my husband...

These things HAVE to go because not only is it completely unsafe for me to be having panic attacks while I'm driving, but baby's due next month and I can't have spiders crawling across him (yeah, I know...unlikely...but it's something that has me worried).

Can you bomb your car? Chris says the pesticides will "stick" to the fabric or whatever in the car and that won't be good for baby Corbin...Is that true? There has to be SOMETHING I can do...

:puke02:

I do know that pesticides do stick to fabric (which is why they tell you to remove all blankets, clothing from the room, or wash them after use. I have bad arachnophobia myself (once stopped my car on the highway to run out of it due to a spider on the OUTSIDE of my windshield), so I know how you feel. But I do know vodka kills them instantly, and you can spray them with it and it dissipates quickly so you don't have to worry about the fumes hurting baby Corbin.

That would still entail me seeing them and having to get close enough to spray them. :(

Plus I don't think it'd be too good of an idea to have your car smell like vodka...In case you get pulled over... :D

Both very good points. I didn't think of that. I have a water gun I use, it goes like 5-10 feet, so I don't have to be close at all. But I still scream and shriek the whole time, then I need the vodka to calm down!

I'll have to do that next time! Usually, I just pour from the bottle into a glass, but the shooting it into my mouth sounds like fun!

Honestly, I've never tried to get rid of spiders... I always try to attract them, so I wouldn't know where to start.

Sounds like the little buggers have made a home in your ventilation system. I would try taking it to a detail shop to see if maybe they can blow the vents out. Then for preventative measures, get yourself an organic big killer. With how many "green" products, there is bound to be a ton out there. I use Kitchen Brand "Bug Shooter." Its organic, and is mainly made out of things to drown them, not harsh chemicals.

Wild guess here but leave your car running for a bit and turn up the heat and fan, see if that help any.

But that must be funny to see you freak out while driving. hehe

sorry but I'm odd that way.

You could always try to overcome your fear?
Think of the people that feel that way about snakes. Even though there isn't anything to really worry about, they absoultutely freak out when they see one. I took a corn to school once and one girl screamed and refused to even come in the room (until about half-way through class) even when the snake was in a knotted pillowcase, in a latched plastic box, with a belt tied around it. On top of that she then decided to sit on the complete opposite side of the room.

I know it bothers you, and I'm not trying to be insensitive or critical, I actually used to be afraid of spiders, but concerning the baby+spider problem, well alot of people kill snakes on sight because they have little kids and they are so sure that the snake is going to harm them.

I was afriad of them, but now I love them. Sometimes you just have to force yourself to stay calm and try to learn as much as you can. I would try getting a tarantula.:D

I haven't searched, but wouldn't someone make a "bug bomb" for cars? People use them in their house and occupy it safely afterwards, why not market a size for autos?
I think you are safe with your kids and the spiders they are likely to encounter, but a parents piece of mind is important also.

That isn't an option for me...
I want them gone...They don't belong in my vehicle...They can live all they want in their own space...They just need to stay out of my house and car.

What's stupid about it is I'm not even sure why I have the panic attacks. I know they can't really hurt me (outside a usual bug bite), but for some reason I just freak...It's the worst if I'm in an enclosed area (like my car).

Ok...This almost made me pee my pants...
They killed a spider with a remote control car...

Amazing what you find when you search for "kill spiders in car"... :poke:

Aw that poor innocent spider!!!
I would catch it and release in wild.
:-( I will kill them with HUGE remote control car!!!

Ok, it looks like I'm going to have to do something about the house as well. :(

I was watching TV and this huge spider began crawling across the screen. I ran to get a spray bottle of bleach and before I got back it had disappeared. It was either a Black Widow or a False Black Widow based on its size, color and shape (my brother kept a "pet" Black Widow while he lived in California, I know what they look like), but I couldn't get close enough (*shudders*) to confirm which it was.

Anyone have any experience bombing and having reptiles? I can seal off the reptile room and leave the door (I have a door in the reptile room that goes to the outside) and window hanging open for the duration.

I bought some good stuff that seems to work well with just about all bugs. I bought it for ticks for when I hike really, but I've used it since then on couches sheets clothes etc when my little starling brought biting mites into the house. It's a permethrin spray that stays on fabrics (through 7 washes even) and yet has pretty much no effect on people birds snakes etc.

What's it called? Might be a good option for the car...
And what does "pretty much no effect" entail? :)
