Spotteds enyone?

CULEBRA85

JUST ANOTHER JOSH!!! LOL
So i was thinking of getting a spotted python to add to my growing collection.....just wanted to ask wat everyone thoughts where on this guys?

I've got three spotted pythons (2 normal, 1 granite morph). They are great little snakes, relatively easy feeders with requirements not much different than corns. Some can be snappy and mine took a bit longer to get feeding on F/T than your average corn, but nothing too terrible. One thing to keep in mind is that they can't handle quite as large of prey items as a corn can.

They can be a little difficult to find, as not too many people raise them and the clutches tend to be on the small side. I would get ones that have already been eating F/T and that you can handle before taking home if possible.

thanx for the feed back....im been looking at the ones they have at pet bazzar, cuz i like the way they treat their animals...but their is a price on quality...so they are a little pricey....but man i fell in love with their patterns and the fack that they are smaller than other pythons....if u know anybody that has a sub adult or a baby for sale let me know.

My first spotted was purchased at Pet Bazaar and he's had no issues. Great feeder, switched easily to F/T, not bitey at all. He's nearly 2 now. He cost more than either of my females, but not so much more that I feel like it wasn't worth it. The females were purchased at Daytona, so it makes complete sense they would be cheaper. I'm still a couple of years (at least) off from breeding them myself as my females are still sub adult size.

Here are a few pics of the male (Eugene):
As a little worm the day I brought him home

Sometime last year (he's ~80g heavier than this now and 6" longer)

wow...beautiful snakes....man i love their eyes!! that granite looks sooooooo cool!!! hey how much did u pay for them at the daytona show? if u dont mind me asking...also when is the daytona show?

I payed $100 for the male at Pet Bazaar. The female normal was $50 at Daytona and the female granite was $75 (both from the same breeder). Daytona happens at the end of August and from my experience there are usually 3-5 people selling spotteds there. Usually 1-2 of those will have granite morph snakes available.

Last year I was hoping to pick up a male granite but couldn't find one. Wound up picking up this little guy instead (flashier than spotteds, but also larger, snappier, and a bit tougher to take care of):

Yea, it's a Bismark Ringed Python (Bothrochilus boa). They are relatively closely related to spotted pythons.

They look almost like a fake snake when they are juvies, with the bright orange bands. By the time they are adults they are much more drab in appearance, with the orange fading to a black/brown or brownish color. They retain their highly irridescent scales though. My favorite part is the pitch black head and eyes.

So far mine is not much of a hateling, but he has bitten me pretty good twice (well, as much as a snake his size can). Much feistier than my spotteds, but according to some I have gotten lucky with them.

A couple of things worth noting on the spotted pythons: mine seem to like the temps a couple of degrees warmer than my corns do. All of mine like toilet rolls as hides when small though the male doesn't seem to care much if he's hidden now that he's larger. They take a lot longer to settle in to eating than my corns do. I feed them first and they finish eating last.

Also, keep in mind that Children's pythons are very similar and worth looking into as well. Their pattern fades more as they age than the pattern of a spotted python does but they are sometimes easier to find and I believe also have a granite morph. They are also a little bit smaller.

I want to be able to collect all the different Antaresia species one day.
