Squabs

The older one just had some more flying practice! Unfortunately it has decided my wrist is the best place in the world to sit. Which concerns me that they may be too tame to release by the time they're ready. So I may have to ask my sister to do a soft release after all, from her garden, as she's got no cats around her.
The younger one is still needing to be fed, but is starting to try pecking at the food now.

When do you think they will be fit enough to release back to the big bad world? id love to see some release pics.

The bigger one is getting stronger and should be ready to go soon, but still quite thin, so I think at least a week for him. The younger one hopefully the week after.
I'll certainly get pictures of their releases, my sister still hasn't uploaded pictures of the one she released from her 'phone camera, she couldn't find the cable, then dropped the 'phone in her pond, so those pics may be lost

The bigger squab now enjoys a daily flying practice, and doesn't need hand feeding, but still squeaks and interferes when I'm feeding the little one. The little one is watching and just starting to pick up a little food for itself.
The little one has a dropped wing, but is getting stronger and can now get a couple of inches up in the air!

They are ao adorable!! It's hard to believe a difference in age of only two days would make such a big developmental difference!

They are ridiculously tame for me, and the big one likes sitting on my shoulder or head. The little one seems to prefer being cuddled and being finger-preened and gets really excited if I grasp it's beak in a tug of war.

I'm wondering if there's more than 2 days, because the baby's beak is still a little rubbery, whereas the bigger one has a hard, adult beak now. They were from a ledge above a local shop where there are usually 3 or 4 pairs nesting, so may have come from different nests.

Well, they've been domesticated for thousands of years- what do you expect?? Pigeons are _so_ people oriented. And smart. Baby probably likes the beak pulling game because he thinks it might involve feeding, if it involves his beak.

It's so funny, because it makes him paddle his feet and hop!

Babie's first flight this morning! He was practicing wing flapping while I was feeding the older one, then managed a flight across my kitchen! Both are filling in nicely so their keelbone's aren't so prominent.
Apart from the squab my sister finished fledging for me last year I haven't re-habbed birds for a while. I'd forgotten how adorable they are.
George wants them released together, the older bird could go at the weekend but I've agreed to wait 'til baby's ready too.

Awwwwwwwwwww J9, your boys are wonderful! They are such cuties! And your doing such a wonderful job w/ them. Love the updated pics!
And Nanci Milly is a swthrt! :)

Hey Vikki! George actually swings between Mr Hormone and temper issues, to the (he'd go spare if he knew I wrote this) sweet and caring boy I raised him to be!

LOL Awwww NICE, that's what I have to look forward to???

I have to be careful b/c I think Gary lurks here...you never know if 'they' are reading up..:eek1:

The older two never got as hormonal, I'm just hoping G grows out of it soon! As long as he keeps some of the sweetness I'll let him live long enough!
