Still no luck feeding...

Brand New Corn Mommy
It's been another week and we tried yet again to feed Tungsten and he still wanted nothing to do with it. This time around we heated the pinkie up, put him and the pinkie together in the dish and covered it. We decided to give him the evening like another poster suggested... still no luck the next morning. This makes three weeks he hasn't eaten, anyone have any more ideas? :(

Is he still active? If his clutchmates were blue a few days ago, he is probably nearing time to shed, too. I would probably try every four or five days. Is there any chance of returning him to the breeder for remedial training, if that would work out for both parties?

I have read your past post, I wonder if you have tried 2 things, 1) washing the pinky with dove soap in cold water then rinsing. 2) Lizard scenting.

I got a non feeder to eat by scenting with tuna juice, did that a couple of times, now he eats great..I've also heard chicken broth works

I sent you an email this morning before I saw this thread :(

This is an option as well.

He is still active, yes. When I put him back after attempting to feed he slithered around his Viv before settling down again. I haven't seen any signs of shedding, but maybe I am just not experienced enough to know what they are? To me he still looks bright and shiny, his eyes have never looked blue or grey. I have not tried live or tried to wash them... what is lizard scenting? We did try scenting with tuna but that doesn't seem to make him any more interested in it.

What I mean is, without bothering him or searching him out, in the evening do you see him out exploring and doing stuff, or is he always hiding?

Again I would say that since he was an excellent feeder before you got him, scenting is just a waste of time. He knows how to eat mice- something else is not to his liking. My guess is he is in or near the shed period.

Sometimes is can be difficult to tell when they are getting ready to shed especially with babies. Just a curiosity question. Where did you get the mice and what size are they? I know I saw the size of the pinkies that petsmart had for sale in their little tubs and was floored those things are big.

So you should be thinking a pinky the size of a Jelly Belly. Maybe try breaking one into a head and a headless portion, that way he can choose an appropriate size? (They snap apart easily while frozen).

Our new guy didn't eat for a total of 18 days once and the reason, we think, was shedding. He ate like a champ, after though. What's strange is that he's in blue now, and ate two pinks last night. How long has it been since your's has eaten?

I picked them up at Petco. They are a little bigger than a jelly bean. I can try cutting one's head off and offering him part instead of a whole pinkie to see if he will eat that instead.

He is quite active at night, both above and below. You can see the bedding in motion, but he comes out, crawls over and around everything. It's been pretty consistent that he is out every night. He has also started simply curling up under his hidey instead of burying himself under the bedding during the day, which I am not sure if that means anything about his comfort level.

You may want to try that. I remembered thinking "wow the mice I get from RodentPro are 1/3 to 1/2 smaller that that." I would give him a few more days again then try that. If that doesn't work then maybe we can meet up and I can give you some of these RodentPro pinks. Then we can go from there.

my little dude went 23 days after I got him before finally eating - after trying a live pinkie - so maybe try that? he showed no interest whatsoever in F/T pinkies - but will gobble down a live pinkie in about 30secs.

I just got a couple of my non feeders, who havent had a single meal since hatching, to eat yesterday when I heated the pinks up nice and warm then rat scented them.

I own two female rats and they have a towel that I sliced up into 4 pieces, those pieces were in with them for about a week. I took one of those pieces out folded the pinks up in it and rolled it around a few times to get the rat scent all over them. Worked for a couple of them but not for all, next I try tuna with those who still didn't eat.
