Stripe versus Striped Motley Comparison Pics

Okay, so hope Rebecca (Triple R Corns) doesn't mind me hotlinking. But this is the girl I'll be purchasing from her if she's still available. She's pretty sure she is but just has to look. Does this mean that this girl then, is a motley stripe instead of just a stripe? That would be awesome really if I ever decided to breed.

That one is a difficult one. It has aspects to indicate it is homozygous stripe, such as the distance between the stripes on the neck. The connections could still be homozygous stripe as not all are "perfect" and it could have some cubed influence (which is not fully understood but happens in homozygous stripes). The only part that may indicate the motley gene in there very minor "dips" in the stripes starting at about half-way, but those could also be due to cubing. Knowing exactly what the parents are (seeing good photos) would greatly help in identifying what genes are present. And breeding trials would also let you know.

I am also a little new to mixing the motley and stripe genes together, and it seems that if you are wanting to produce stripes, it's better to not have the motley gene in the mix? Any chances of producing a stripe hatchling (not motley/stripe) from two motleys that are het stripe? I have a feeling my hypo lavender stripe project is going to end up being a striped motley project, oh well. This post has been very helpful and I am hoping to still get some more info on this. Thanks

It is most definitely possible to produce some homozygous stripe offspring from parents that are motley het stripe! These striped hatchlings all came from a pair motleys het stripe:

This is an example of a striped motley...and one that is het motley and het stripe.

Becaues the motley and stripe gene lie on the same locus, motley het stripe are in actually heterozygous for both motley and stripe...with motley being dominant to stripe

++.....Wild Type
+m.....het motley
+s....het stripe
mm....motley
ss.....stripe
ms....het motley, het stripe (aka motley het stripe)

ms x ms = mm, ms, sm, ss
in other words, ms x ms will produce 1/4 motley, 1/2 motley het stripe, 1/4 stripe

Because motley is dominant to stripe the phenotype will be 1/4 stripe, 3/4 motley poss. het stripe

WOW! Susan I just have to ask but the first striped baby you where showing, was that a Striped Charcoal or is the picture deceiving me? I have been wanting a Striped Charcoal for a project of mine. Not that I am asking for it but this would give me a great pick to look at for when I am going to reptile shows and such to look for a new little guy.

Sorry, no charcoals, only anery stripes and striped motleys in the first group of photos. Later on, I put in some snow stripes and a dilute anery stripe along with more anery stripes.

Even if the corn isn't a charcoal, they are all great looking. I started out with a real bad vibe for Aneries because the local breeders around here have some aneries they say and they just look like dark normals so I never took to the name but you have turned me around to liking this morph a bit.
