striped motley babies

here are my babies from a hypo stripe X motley breeding. I know the pic is not great, but you can see the variation in shade of color. Is this variation within normal limits, or do the lighter ones look like hypos? I will try to get better pics later if needed.

close-up of the color variation

I hope this shows more clearly the colors.

the pic seems to show the colors pretty well to me

and yes, there are 3 color variations. The darkest are, of course, normals. So, what are the others? They all have colored/dark eyes.

sorry for the multiple short posts

I can't edit to add this: I just wanted to mention that, yes, they have already had their first shed.

I've not hatched out any hypo stripes yet, but I would say that the brighter red ones are hypo (they're colored like my hypo mots). But I don't have a clue what the "mid-grade" colored ones are. Definately different from the other 2 colors though! It reminds me of what I hatched out of 2 clutches this year...anery mots, ghost mots, and then something inbetween. Could something be happening when combining the motley and stripe genes with hypo which causes the hypo gene to not have as great an effect on color in every instance? Or are we starting to see yet another, as yet unidentified, gene make it's appearance into the world of cornsnake genetics? It would be very interesting to see the results of crossing your "mid-grade" hypo motley/stripes to my "mid-grade" ghost motleys! And we're close enough to each other to try it!

yeah, I can't wait to see what they look like

in a few weeks. It will be interesting to see what color changes occur. The "mid color" ones really don't have much red on them, unlike the normals and hypo (bright red) looking ones. I am not sure if the colors are coming through on the screen properly, but they look more like a "mocha" color with some pinkish tan color between the stripes. Very pretty, and not what I expected from this pair.

Susan, If they turn out anything like your "mid-grade" ghost mots, then I would also be interested in seeing if there is a similar affect going on.
