This season I bred a Striped Butter male to a Caramel Motley female that tended towards a striped pattern. Got some pretty interesting looking babies from that mixture:

Of course, when I sexed them, I found that out of the 12 or so babies I had, only ONE of them was a female. So, I guess I'll be getting rid of most of them. Dang it.....

Nice looking carmel striped motely~!!

Wow...11.1....the odds are really weird.....
Oh well....

Still they're very nice looking babies!!

I've got some one sided ratio the last two years. 2003 7 hatched 6 females 1 male this year 21 hatched 16 females and 5 males . my popping technique may not be 100% accurate. Have 11 more hatching in mid sept. will wait and see.

So will these sell for the same price as the caramel motleys het butter listed on your site? $80.00 each?

What temp did you had the eggs?

Same temp as all the other eggs. Around 82 to 83 degrees.

I doubt it. I think they are worth more than regular Caramel Motleys het Butter. Probably will sell them for no more than $100 each, though. So just a modest markup on the price.

From what I've read those odds are exactly right for Rich.

Man, you got that right. That's why I produce so many corn snakes. I feel I need the numbers to try to balance out the bad luck a little bit. Doesn't work all of the time though. And sometimes it is really awe inspiring to see Murphy's Law work at full force.

I just made a simular comment in a thread started by corncrazy. Do you think this type of motley/stripe should be called a reverse stripe? Not all stripe x motley breedings produse this look. I think they deserve thier own name. Pesonaly I'm like them more and more all the time.

Rich, I bought a snake from you at Daytona in 2002 as a caramel motley het butter for $125, which was the going rate back then.

Color-wise, he was the spitting image of those guys when he was that size. Pattern wise, he's very similar to the above except his head pattern isn't big like those.

I'm posting his picture on the regular photo gallery, where he's next to a female amber I bought from you at the same time. :)

Yes, I get a few like that every year, it seems. But I found it interesting that when I bred a Butter Stripe to a Caramel Motley that had some partial striping that MOST of the babies looked that way. Shame I got mostly males, though. Would have been interesting to see what the next generation would have produced. Not sure I want to work on a project built around a single female, though.
