stun mice

Little bunny fufu walking through the forest picking up the field mice and bobbing them on the head..... :twohammer LOL

Get a spoon and give them a bop.

Stun Mice.

put them in a paper bag or anytype of cloth bag and smash them againts the wall or something lol...thats how we do it around here

Packerfan....you'd better be kidding...that's aweful.

I used to dispatch of my mice before feeding them to the snakes by holding the mouse gently by the tail whilst it was on a piece of newspaper on the floor (or balcony table) and give it a sharp whack on the back of the neck with the BLUNT SIDE of a butchers knife.

The mouse will try to crawl away from you and the newspaper offers it some grip. This has the effect of stretching the mouse out so it's easier for you to aim well. I've found this to be a (relatively) nice way to dispatch of mice.

Often they'll kick and spasm a bit and if you want the snake to 'think' it's still alive, this is a good time to toss it in with the snake whilst not distressing the mouse any more than necessary.

I agree with giving your snake the freshest possible meal but I'm not a fan of putting a mouse through hell (no matter how short) to do it. These days I just buy them in bags of 100 but I might go back to breeding some time.

Good luck,

Adèle

how do you stun mice?

Tell them that you're a cross-dresser or that you open-mouth kissed a horse once. :)

(Did I just say that out loud?) :uhoh:

I'll have to remember that if i have a non feeding snake that might exept fressley killed mice :grin01: .

if they're fuzzies just throw them in alive and watch the snake do it by themselves

if you don't want the snake to do it just take them by the tail and bop them on the table or wall or edge of viv not too hard just hard enough to stun them

To bah14...

I feed frozen, it's the most convenient, clean and cheap method I can find. The bottom drawer of my freezer is reserved just for mice, that way there can't be a risk of contaminating food (they're in plastic bags in the bottom drawer). The stun method I wrote about is how I did it when I bred my own mice and I found it to be the 'nicest' way I could think of to do it.

thanks for the reply. I think it's the way to go as well. For the life of me, I'm just not a fan of killing the lil' bugger :awcrap:

bah14, i also use F/T 99% of the time and only use live/stunned mice for non feeders to try and get them going (i've had 2 non feeders in 4 years of breeding and out of nearly 140 hatchlings, so the odds are good). As soon as they have taken 5 live/stunned i switch to F/T as i hate having to use live, and don't unless i can help it.

makes perfect sence. THanks for the insight

Why stun a mouse just kill it. Just hold the mouse by the tail, take a screwdriver and place it on the back of the mouses neck, tug on the tail and sever the spinal colum.
From start to finish it take 3 seconds for the mouse to die.

f/t is fine, especially if you are worried about being humane. A friend who used to have a feeder rodent business had a really clean automated system of enclosures that he would pump full of carbon dioxide, so they would just fall asleep and never wake up. Of course, who knows if that's the preferred method of them all.

I'm firmly of the belief that although I choose to keep a snake that doesn't mean I shouldn't care about the needless suffering of its prey. I'm of the opinion that, unless there is a compelling reason not to, it is best for both the snake and the prey if humainly killed F/T food is used. The idea of putting a mouse through pain and terror just because it's 'FUN' is wrong.

I will second this. However, once i would like to see my corn constrict and kill it's prey the "natural" way.

I'm totally with you there EvilRix, there's nothing funny about letting a mouse suffer when it doesn't need to.

And to Packerfan. This is a mature forum. I undersatand you're only 17, but the vast majority of us are not and aren't interested in hearing how you get off on hurting small animals. If by any chance you're just joking, you need to add a 'winky face', otherwise you'll be offending a whole bunch of people who might think you're being serious. There are a few wierdo types (you see them at every show) who have a snake or a big spider cos they want to reinforce the fact they're a social misfit (hey, I'm not being judgemental...I was a grunger as a teenager and have pics to prove it!)...but many of us are in it for the love of a beautiful animal and are sympathetic to the quality of life of its prey.
