substrate depth

I was just wondering how much substrate everyone puts in there cages/tubes? Do you just cover the bottom or do you put in an inch or more? For the most part I put an inch in but now that I am getting more and more snakes it is starting to get expensive. Would it be ok to to put a bare minimum in?

I put in two to three inches. They want to be able to burrow. jake likes to plow through it and make roads and banks like a snow plow. The more you put in, the longer it lasts.

Well i use shredded aspen.. and..

Put one inch. place hides on top.. and then fully submerge any hides.. so by the time im done.. theres 5-6 inches.. the corns LOVE it.. when they poop it smells less (usualy in near the bottom) and you just sift through to find the poop.. nothing funnier when there under subtrate snug to the glass thinking there hiding!

2-3 inches here. Connor always makes little tunnels digging through the aspen, and I like to offer him that opportunity. :)

If I recall correctly, 2-3 in is the standard, and the snakes are happiest with at least that amount. However, I know that some of the bigger breeders use newspaper, which can also be shredded and used for bedding. (And much more cost friendly.) While it isn't the best stuff to use, it does it's job.
