Such is my luck

and Corns, OH MY!
Well, I am finally almost recovered from my broken arm and surgery. Except I had been having increasing pain in my shoulder so I went for a recheck. I had an MRI on Monday and found out today that I also tore my rotator cuff in the accident. I will be having a second surgery to repair it, oh joy.

Oi! When it rains, it pours, doesn't it?! I hope this surgery is the final one you'll need, and that you'll heal quickly and completely.

Well- that's a really popular surgery for people in my line of work. Any luck finding a job?? You should move to Gainesville!!

Thanks guys.
Nanci, no not yet. I have an interview next week at MRMC. There is a position at the VA in G-ville. Didn't Shands outsource their lab?

Oh no! Another surgery just after you've finally healed!!

Eik, I'm going through something kinda similar.. I broke both of my legs about 3 months ago in a bus accident, and I now have a rod in my lower left leg. My leg is pretty small so they had to use the smallest screw they could find. We saw in my last x - ray that the bottom screw is now broken! The doctor said that it should be fine (and that it's actually a good sign that my bone is healing), but if it is bugging me after I heal we may have to surgically remove it.

I STILL don't have all the feeling back in my legs, and only after I'm fully recovered will they determine if I need another surgery or not... :bang:

Back to back healing is no fun. :(

Oh no, Jessica I am so sorry. I hope you don't need a second surgery.

The Dr. said I could wait but I just want it over with. Besides, I am having a lot of pain and really can't do much with that arm. I was at the drive-thru ATM the other day and had to reach out to the side and up. My arm wouldn't stop shaking. I can carry things with my arm down at my side but not with my arm raised to the side or in front.
I guess I can't complain, while I was at therapy there was guy who had broken BOTH of his arms. That really must have sucked.

Dang, sounds like you have it pretty bad off. The other night my leg was shaking uncontrollably as well.. and I hadn't even really done much with it that day!

It's probably better to just get it all over with as soon as possible.. especially if it will relieve some of your pain.

I'm sending wishes your way for a speedy recovery!!

Well, my surgery is tomorrow at 10 am. At least it is outpatient :)
I will post how it went in the next few days.

OK, so much for outpatient surgery.

I ended up in the hospital for observations because my heart rate was elevated and my oxygen saturation was too low. The anesthesiologist was worried about blood clots in my lungs.

The CT scan was clear, my cardiac echo was normal but they found pneumonia. I guess that it had started before the surgery but they didn't do a pre-op chest x-ray because I don't smoke.

Anyway, I am home now and doing well. As for my shoulder, it turned out not to be a rotator cuff tear. The Dr. did clean up some bone spurs and adhesions for the other surgery.
I am now on the road to recovery :spinner:

((Lisa)) I am glad you are OK, and I am glad the blood clot test was negative. Pneumonia is probably a better thing to have because usually antibiotics clear that right up, especially since you don't smoke.

Makes me wonder how you got into surgery in the first place, if there was no tear...Glad you're okay! Pneumonia is no fun.

Well, the MRI and the physical exam indicated a tear. I guess that MRI is not the most reliable test.

I had no symptoms from the pneumonia except being really tired last week. The same thing happened last Nov and I found out when I got a stabbing pain when I breathed.

Right now, I am tired, sore and can't get comfortable to sleep. My parents are visiting so I am sleeping (or trying to) on the daybed. I am glad they are here for me but can't wait to get my own bed back.
