My question is this.. Corn Snakes are nocturnal so is the brightness of the afternoon sun too much for there little eyes to handle? The reason I'm asking this is because I normally walk around with the snake when handling him and though he might enjoy some fresh air and a slither through the grass. :D Sadlly the grassy area is not shaded from the afternoon sun. :mad:

Corns are not entirely nocturnal. They are mainly crepsucular (active at dawn and dusk) and I've caught my share on hot summer days-and it gets hot here; either on streets, basking on rocks, or just exploring through fields. I wouldn't personally let one of my snakes in the grass, just to avoid worst-case scenario but wouldn't think twice about carrying one outdoors in nice weather. That is if I you don't have neighbors that might get upset or brand you "that snake weirdo." Sounds harsh, but lots of folks accquainted with me have no idea there are dozens of snakes in my home. I pick pretty carefully who I tell, unless the subject of snakes comes up and someone is exaggerating to the point I can't restrain my self from informing them and have to back it up with experience. Jeez, I could tell you some outlandish things folks claim to have "seen" snakes do. But that's another post...
 
Also, being cold blooded they would 'sun bathe' in the wild to warm up their bodies after cooler night time temperatures. Obviously they dont have to do this in captivity cause we provide heat mats etc but i have caught my oldest male out on top of his hide basking in the morning heat lamp! lol :D
