I just saw the movie
Sweeney Todd
- the demon barber of fleet street -

I think Johnny Depp's a good actor
and I just love Tim Burton's movies.
So, my opinion on Sweeney Todd:
Great movie - a must.
I've got the soundtrack on my iPod

Anyone of you peeps seen it?

".. it's priest, have a little priest .. "

No I haven't seen it yet....But I agree that Tim Burton is one cool director....And Mr J Depp is a very good actor...
Recently Johnny Depps daughter was in Great Ormand street childrens hospital. Johnny turned up at night in secret, dressed like Cap'n Jack and read the kids stories....
Now thats a cool guy with a big heart.....

I liked the movie, and agreed, it's a "must see".....but I'll take the original Broadway production (with Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury) over the movie any day, and twice on Sundays.

It's my favorite "stage" musical; the darker the scene, the more beautiful the music, and it's always nice for me (a second bass...I'm a White Barry White ;) ) to see a bass/baritone get the lead. Usually, the tenors get all the good roles. :grin01:

Sweeny Todd has been a favorite broadway production of mine forever. I'v always adored it. I almost pee'd myself with excitment when I heard Tim Burton and Johnny Depp were collaborating on it - A perfect partnership in the freaky world of film.

I have an unhealthy addiction to Burton movies already, so this has made it's way into my top 10 films of all time (including NMBC, Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, Sleepy hollow, Big Fish etc). It was a wonderful attempt at recreating the delightfully morbid stage production. I was impressed Depp was brave enough to actually sing. Carter was equally amazing in her role. I simply adored the morbid magic of Burtons version of Sweeny Todd.

His obviously stylised way of directing and producing films turned a black comedy slant onto the production which was amazing. He always has an uncanny knack for making me grin widly at projectile bloody scenes... hee hee

Think i share everyones passion for the Burton-Depp factor and overall i liked the movie,

but IMO Depp should stick to acting and not singing :eek1:, i thought the voices in song were generally poor, but all other aspects of the movie made up for it.

Also my girlfriend had difficulty watching the gore, throat slitting montage in the middle

My girlfriend is an avid J. Depp fan so she practically begged me to go watch it (I'm not a huge fan of musicals-to-film adaptations).

I really enjoyed it, honestly. The singing got old at the beginning of the movie, but much more bearable and alive as the movie went on. The story is/was great, and it's a definite watch if only for the story.

But then you've got the awesome setting. Dark, dreary, and mysterious. It makes for a wonderful movie.

While I won't be purchasing it or even watching it twice, I'm very glad I saw it at least once and would recommend everyone give it at least one viewing. :)

Erm I shall be purchasing everything and anything to do with the film, I thought it was THAT good... I'm a Burton mechandise advitisers wet dream...

Ah I loved Sweeny Todd. Of course I love ALL of the movies by Tim Burton with Johnny Depp in them. They're always a bit dark, which I love, and the gore in Sweeney made me chuckle more than once. (Ok so I'm crazy)
I loved the songs, I get random ones stuck in my head all the time.

I have watched the movie over 15, I watched it 3 times in a row the first time I seen it, I'm not sure if I'm obsessed with the idea of seeing Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter on the same screen at once, but it's definatally amazing!

I love them both! Although I'll say I'm more of a "Helena Bonham Carter" fan, just because I'm scared Elle might jump on me :p

My husband has seen it on stage and could easily sing the lead role. I had to stop him from singing in the theater. We I saw it opening weekend and fell in love with it. We adore Johnny Depp, but I'm more infatuated with Alan Rickman. I like daddy figures, what can I say? My hubby really likes Alan Rickman, too. It was a win/win/win for both of us. A dark musical about a serial killer in period setting with two of my top actors? Cigarette? For me the only thing Tim Burton could do to top this would be to make a film about Elizabeth Bathory. I think I would just lay down and die from pleasure.

i think i'll just jump in the same boat with elle and dionythicus

jd, alan rickman, helena bonham carter, blood, gore, tim burton........yeah, i'm good...
