sweetest hides

What on earth kind of hide does a four foot long, 800 gram snake go into?? That still looks pretty and natural, of course! My 3.5 foot 400 gram corn still fits into standard herpstore hides.

LOL Nanci, my guy isn't quite 800 grams at only 761 grams, but he loves the new hollow log that I bought him... barely fits into his cage and he has to do some doubling, but he loves it :)

I don't remember the wood, but it's really, really lightweight. Picked it up at a small herp show here the first of Dec. He, for the most part, gave up the burrowing that he was doing after I brought this home. I think it's less work :) Most of the time, you'll find him watching out like he's in this picture. He can people watch from the comfort of his own private log :)

Wow, he's a big guy! My new cages are going to be 24x24, so kind of an odd size- I'm not used to working with square. I'm thinking big water crock in one (front) corner, warm hide in one corner, cool hide in one corner, big climbing branch in the front. Maybe some of those bendy sticks with vines wrapped around them, but I think it's going to be hard to support adults on vines of any type. Maizey has a big chunk of grape wood that she can get up on- she really likes that. What size tank is that that you have him in? I saw a pretty big- like 10" by 10" rock hide, but I don't know if that would be large enough. I'm going to have to take Secret Snake to the herpstore to try on hides!

Kieran's tank is a 29 tall, which has been laid on it's side. His log is slightly angled in the cage, so he can get into the two ends, plus a little room in the back if he wants to burrow and he can burrow underneath everything. I don't know how he gets under the water dish as it's really, really heavy, but he has tunneled underneath. Guess it's due to having plenty of aspen in there to hold it off the floor.

Tiaga is almost 4ft and didn't use the hide I had for her because I think she out grew it. It was one of those "natural" looking hides.

I cut a hole in 2 shoe boxes and placed those on each side of her viv, and she LOVES them. So much so I hardly see her anymore! lol

Would love to find a more natural looking hide that is large enough but for now the shoe boxes will have to do I guess.

I have two XLarge wooden hides for Markey and she fits nicely into both of them. I also have a large piece of cork that looks like a hollowed out log that she hangs out in. Do an online search. I'm sure you'll find something. If not, just cover the shoeboxes with substrate and some moss. You'll never be able to tell it's a shoebox!!!

Here's a couple pics of Tiaga's shoe box hides.
She can't get enough of them. Before I put those in there she use to hang out on the warm side. Now I never see her anywhere but in the cool side hide, GO FIGURE!... lol

And no, even though it looks like it, she is not in "blue", must just be the way the flash bounced off her eyes. She just ate this morning so she's one happy camper..

she's gorgeous!

i can't get enough pictures of adult normals. Someone tried to tell me they were a boring morph once....pshah

I think normals are the most underated "color" of all! There's nothing like a normal in my book!

Normals are the only corns I'm interested in.
I'd like to get an okeetee next, but that would be the most "extreme" I'd go as far as color phase goes...lol

Ooh, but what about a nice Upper Keys???

Maize just shed, and she is really getting a lot of black on her back now. When she comes out later I'll try to get a nice bowl shot of her.

I found a rock hide on line that was 11x13 or something. I wish there was going to be a show before he gets here. The next one is February 29. I've never been to one, because I am afraid...

Ok, if I were going to keep this I would cover the two boxes with substrate and a splash of moss. Then I'd put a branch across the two boxes so the snake could climb if she wanted to. That would look very nice. Because the boxes are flat you almost have a second level. That branch would offer more roaming space for your corn.

What a great idea! If it wasn't -20 windchill here right now I'd prolly go out and try to find a perfect branch just for her...LOL

Here are a few pictures of Markey's setups. The first one is of her original tank. It was a 20 galllon long. She loved climbing on her tree branch.

The second picture is of Markey's 260 gallon cage. I'm currently adding a third level and will post pictures once it is completed.

Thanks! Is your name Lisa, too? That's my name.....

If you are using "real" wood, be sure to either boil it or to pour boiling water all over ALL sides of the branch to kill any parasites that might be lurking on the wood. You do not want to introduce anything harmful to your snake.
I have a combination of real and fake wood in my setups.

I made mine a humid hide out of a sour cream container when he was in blue and now its his favorite place to be all the time (besides his network of tunnels the he doesn't think I know about).

LOL @ the tunnels. Markey's favorite tunneling spot is under her water dish. It's extra large and I'm always afraid she will get stuck.....
