Swheat Scoop as substrate?

I have been considering different substrates for my corn snakes. I am currently using ReptiBark and although I like the way that it looks I do not like that it is not very easy to clean the waste out of. It is also pretty expensive.
I have yet to try aspen shavings and since it is such a popular and inexpensive substrate I may just end up using that. Although I don't really like the looks of it.

I have been looking at Swheat Scoop kitty litter as an option. It is a natural clumping litter made out of processed wheat. It is said to be absorbent, odour absorbing, non toxic and not harmful if injested. It is also more economical than Reptibark and would be alot easier to clean the waste out of. Here is the company website for more info on the product: http://www.swheatscoop.com/ .

I would please like some opinions of if this product looks like a viable substrate for corn snakes. Thank you.

I don't think I would consider using anything that is made for cat's to use. For one, if the snake ingests it how would the liter "clump" in their digestive track? I'd say you're looking at serious impaction and probably the loss of your snake. I'd go for the aspen. It's cheap (when you buy it in bulk at reptile shows) and it's easy to clean. The snakes can easily tunnel through it and I don't worry about it harming them. Just my two cents. Anyone else have any opinion on it????

I would most definetly stay away from anything that clumps...As madamwlf said, it can cause an impaction problem since most clumping bedding also expands when it absorbs liquid...I would go with he aspen only if your snake is not a hatchling or a juvi...Aspen has been great for my adults but I prefer papers towel for my juvi's and hatchling's, cause I have lost several small smakes due to impaction...The impaction was caused by the aspen bedding being accidentally ingested when they burrowed in it...This is just my .002...

I think it's a big no-no to use kittl litter.
I have "Bed-A-Beast and have been discussing it and a similar substrate with Spirit and Jicin on this thread http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15488&page=1&pp=20
(starting at post#9)
They look great, are very nice to scoop, and provide a good habitat. They are not very widely used even though they are cheap on top of it all. check out that thread for more info.

BTW. I love your signature, drizzt

Yep...LOL...I hate to give my two cents because it's only a penny for my thought's and I hate to waste money.... :crazy02: :)

Thank you for the replies and ideas so far. I may try the Bed A Beast or just end up using the aspen.

Does anyone else have opinions on using the Swheat Scoop as substrate?

hmm... I thought we covered that pretty well, kitty litter is not a good idea for snakes.
for one thing, have you ever noticed how dusty it is? that stuff is bad enough in the amoun that you get into your lungs from pouring it, can you imagine living on it while your mouth is mere milimeters from the floor? plus, clumping in the sense that cat litter clumps is REALLY bad to ingest and would almost certainly be fatal. I don't know the specific brand, but in my experience with the stuff, and some pretty horrific threads I have read, I would say not to use it.

Also remember that even some kinds of wood release airborne toxins that can kill a snake even if it has no effect on anything else.
just my 2 cents
