This is the email I got in response to my asking about being able to ship snakes with reptiles express.

Well we had the voluntary freeze on snakes going on then SYR started to let people ship snakes which upset UPS so UPS stopped all there shipping , of course this upset them it got nasty I guess so UPS Lawyers had UPS stop us from shipping as well
It is no longer a snake issues now it is the fact that UPS does not want third party reselling of labels
(which of course they approved this in the beginning) If you are looking to ship there are some alternatives
you can always call or email me :)

I am awaiting a response as to how shipping can be done. I already know about Fedex but they require a credit card and about 98% of their staff are idiots when it comes to snake shipping and becoming certified to do so. Just wanted to give a heads up for anyone who did not know. Shipyourreptiles has ruined things for both themselves and reptilesexpress.
 
There's only one other way that I know of, Delta or something. I haven't tried or know that much about it except I think you pick up at the airport.
Fed ex - getting certified is a hassle but once you are, it goes smooth (at least in my experience) I have had great service from them and have a good relationship with the staff at my local fed ex ship center. You could always try to find someone who lives near you and has been certified to ship with them.
Ever since the big repster fiasco I have not wanted to use any of the third party shippers
 
SYR did not Tick off UPS and did not Ruin Shipping for herpers. IT was irresponsible herpers who ruined it for everyone. There were a bunch of snakes that were shipped poorly that caused the issues.

If you want to ship your snakes, you have to jump through the hoops and become Fed EX Certified like most who sell snakes online.
 
Whoa, I am just passing on what I was told by reptiles express who was told by UPS that shipyourreptiles got nasty when they were asked to stop shipping snakes and didn't. No need to get mad at me ok? I don't have and can not get a credit card which you need in order to ship with Fedex. I was also told by 5 different Fedex people that NOONE can ship snakes with them and that anyone who is could get into a lot of trouble if they get caught, yeah I know morons who don't know what they are talking about since so many of you are certified but its what I was told. Can only pass on the info I am given and quote the sources. I just wanted to pass along the info not start getting bashed.

I agree completely however I think anytime you let 3rd parties use your account there is always going to be someone that will ruin it for everyone else.
I have heard rumors about FedEx shutting down shipping of reptiles completely, hope it's not true.
Can you imagine not being able to ship our corns, what kind of impact that would have on us?

We would have to start driving chains and hope the people involved were honest and careful. Or people would have to drive all over the US to get the snakes they want which would kill the hobby.

Yeah, the more links in a chain, the more room for a weak link.

But yeah, bad bad rumor, John. Seems, however, like it would take an awful lot for FedEx to decide and say "we do not want your money (and your business)".

I know they make hundreds of thousands of dollars on shipping reptiles but one or two multimillion $ lawsuites could get them questioning shipping reptiles. I think we that are certified shippers need to make sure we are not letting others use our accounts to ship.

I wouldn't mind shipping something for somebody else if I was the one packing the box. But letting someone use my account number, no.
 
I agree with any third party shipping it is up to the people who pack the box to ensure the animals safe arrival. SYR made their shipping standards clear and did everyone a favor by making shipping easy. People that shipped animals inappropriately are to blame and I don't blame SYR if they got nasty...it's not like they could inspect boxes before they went out with THEIR name on it:)

I heard that someone shipped "hot" reptiles and didn't package very well and it came open.:shrugs:

If I knew how to drive, I'd drive snakes to people for a small fee of gas, food (if it's a long drive), and maybe a tip. I wonder what it would take to open up a specialty shipping company? Obviously it could be done, seeing as there are shipping companies, but what would it actually take?
 
You'd have to be able to guarantee 24 hr. delivery for one, have a temp controlled environment for 2, and third have a fleet of willing drivers splitting up deliveries between different areas of the country. It would prove costly and not worth your time in the end. You'd run the risk of some idiot shipping venomous improperly packaged, snakes dying in transit, and probably need a sizable insurance policy with the additions to cover animal loss.

Now see that would be enough to get my blood boiling;) Thats just not funny and is an example of how the actions of one screw it up for those responsibly shipping.

The rumor I heard it was a False Water cobra.. But when someone called in to complain that they FW COBRA was missing or late that just set off all sorts of alarms.

The way I understand it they were told to stop shipping reptiles by the UPS and refused and that is why UPS stopped selling to them then SYR got nasty and had lawyers shut down all 3rd party programs even though reptiles express clients had not had issues. Rep Ex did a voluntary shipping freeze to work with UPS. But hey I was just trying to be nice and pass along the info I recieved so don't shoot the messenger. I'll just keep my mouth shut.
 
Either way it sure seems unprofessional for one company to blame another for UPS pulling the ability to ship 3rd party. If it was just about snakes they would still allow 3rd party shipping of frogs, lizards, and turtles.

If they shipped other reptiles but said no snakes I would think you could sue for snake discrimination....
