The results were meant to be back end of last week.... It would be nice to know whether a virus was present or not....

The results were MEANT to be back last week, but they weren't. That is not in my power!

I do however now have the gross autopsy results in my hand. I am still waiting on viral pannels and bacteria/fungal cultures which will take quite a while. Plus bloods, swabs and bacteria cultures from one of my other snakes that had suspected symtoms.

I will be writing this up after I speak to my vet on Monday and discuss things with him as most of it is not in laymans terms.

Sorry for sending a reply to this but I've only just signed up. I'm new here.

My partner and I have a large collection of around 50 adult snakes and 15 or so young snakes between us plus lots of lizards (monitors, dragons etc)

We got an adult pair of Dumerils Boas with the plan for breeding.
After 2 years of not having the time to get them going, we decided reluctantly to part with them. A short while after deciding to sell we had an enquiry about the femlae. They were both 8 years old approx at the time and fully grown.

One night we were in the animal room and noticed the female doing very strange movements with her head. Something wasn't right. On closer inspection we found blood over the stones and on the decor, also round the snakes mouth.

Like you guys we were looking for cuts or rips. maybe she'd got caught on a screw end that was not noticed or something. but no. We rang the emergency reptile vet who told us to take her there asap. but before we could get her boxed up... She died.

Of-course we thought the worst. IBD!
We have alot of other boa and pythons and were worried about them too.

After a Post mortem we found out to our horror that she had pneumonia!

How the hell she had picked it up we have no idea but the vet seemed to be of the opinion she had it in her lying dormant and something in her situation had stressed her (although we have no idea what as she hadn't been moved or anything). her temp was strictly controlled and humidity perfect.

How did you get on with the royal? Did you find out what caused this problem.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Windsor. I can't imagine how you feel right now. I would definitely miss my snake dearly if I had lost her right now. I wish you luck and my prayers go out to you and your family and your other snakes to get well as fast as possible.

Very sorry for your loss. I hope this run of illness ends quickly without any more losses. It's very hard to stand by not being able to do what you want most -- to make them well. I hope the results are not devastating. Infections are bad but it would be worse if it's one of the more serious diseases. This world has indeed become very small. Scares such as this are worrisome not just for the animal world but for the world in general (humans as well). You will weather this storm, hang in there you'll get through this.

speaking on behalf on everyone here, im sure we are all aware it is monday, but none more so than elle and lynn who will be aware of not just the days but the hours and minutes that tick by as well for such is their plight and worry, so i dont feel they need to tolerate comments such as yours being forced upon them at every given opportunity, so please just have some patience, unless of course your concern is that of one where you feel there may be something wrong with your own snakes of course. now that would be reason to want the results asap.

Take a look at the first post again on here of poor little winsor, and then perhaps you will feel elle's grief and perhaps then when posting again you will be able to type with more feeling in it as at present you are coming across as aggressive and not caring, and just wanting to stir things up which im sure is not your intention?

It took 10 months for some of my results to come back with a snakes ri infection and they were positive. u cant rush cultures. they take their own time to grow. think back to school days ay. ;)

my own snakes are very well thankyou. and im well aware about windsor. am also well aware of the plight of many people in the uk who have suffered because of this thread. and who are waiting to hear the results of these tests. results that we were told we would not hear. so we are all awaiting news with bated breath. only time will tell eh!!!
 
oh and its not my intention to stir things up. but elle already said she had some results but would need to speak to her vet to clarify some things. and she was going to do that today.
 
Enigma, I was at the vets today, and I did have a chat with him about the gross report.

Myself and Lynn were taking snakes back for more anti biotics as they are still sick!

The herp vet we saw was not the man who performed Windsors autopsy, and he actually didn't know a lot at all about Windsors story... he had only seen him once and that was the first time I took Windsor to the vet. He didn't even know he had been euthanised. This was good in one sense, as it meant we were getting impartial opinions on the 2 snakes that were brought in.

Therefore until I have spoken to the vet I have been dealing with throughout this whole ordeal, and until I have ALL my results back I will then let everyone else know.

Theres still a lot of questions unanswered, and a lot of results to come back. I am sorry if this is just not happeneing fast enough for you or the whole reptile community.

we hadnt even been to vets when you posted this :shrugs:...



our appointment was at 2pm.. we got home after 3pm.. at which point my daughter decided she was hungry and so i cooked dinner...

i then went to visit my 2 year old whos staying at her grandmothers just now... so i appologise for not being able to give you what you wanted when you wanted it...

anyway.... as elle said not ALL results are back on all the snakes tested...


once they are elle is going to type up a report and publish it online... exactly where this information wil be made public i am unsure... but the choice wil be made wisely this time ....

the vet has given my two snakes elysium and shug more medication after he did a check up on both snakes today... he decided after checking them over this was the correct course of action at this stage...

and they wil return once again after that for another check up....

there is nothing conclusive yet... nothing... i wish i could give you more information because if i had it guess what.... it would be fantastic as it might mean my two snakes could be treated specifically withtt he antibiotic or treatment this infection was sensitive too.. IF it is a bcteria of course... if not the antibiotics wont work anyway... but i feel my 2 might be picking up... every wheeze every puff i worry its the infection returning but of course it may just be they are fed up with all the invasive tests and medications...

the vet did say however it could be virul OR bacterial... and that the RI symptoms could be secondary to a number of other propblems... that the 4 snakes showing signs... one of which is dead.. could all have caught a contagious infection OR it could be coincidental.. he mentioned the euthanised snake may have died from the RI so quickly as his immune system would have been low and he would have been weak as he had not ate for 8 months before elle had him.. he reiterrated that as my snakes were healthy before these RI symtoms they had a MUCH better chance than windsor of shaking it off if we keep trying and treating.... thats al we know right now...

we cant tell you what we dont know...
